Today has been an exhausting day, which ended with good news.

Long C-vid kicked my guy's butt and he is a champ. A heart cath gave us the best news of no damage, no further surgery. Recovery should be complete in about 2 weeks.

We fled the mountain yesterday in advance of the storm for today's hospital visit. Send good vibes as we make the 2 hour return back tomorrow where the storm continues.

Tonight, I will sleep better than I have in weeks.

According to @CDCgov’s data, C19 deaths and hospitalizations are trending upwards. We lost nearly 3,000 precious lives in the week ending Dec7, 2022. At least 9000 people died with C19 in November. ( @Forbes )

Hospitals across the U.S. are feeling the strain of the triple threat of C19, flu and RSV that’s crowding up emergency rooms, causing hospitals to run out of beds, worsened by the shortage in trained staff.

The CDC’s lag in requiring indoor masking in response to the current crisis is causing confusion. Though some local health agencies have started to recommend universal indoor masking and outdoor masking in crowded public space, some people won’t act until the policy is in place.

Under the CDC’s leadership, our public health policies vary by state, even county. It’s messy and confusing for the general public to follow, especially for people who travel frequently for their jobs. We need consistent and accurate educational information that promotes the layered approach in mitigation measures. Besides reminding people to complete the primary series and getting the boosters and #Flushots, they need to remind people to test, wear masks, increase ventilation and avoid unsafe congregations.

Testing is super important!
🔹Test before gatherings.
🔹Test again before returning to work or school.
🔹Test when showing symptoms and stay home.
🔹Isolate till symptom free and test negative 2X.
🔹Report C19 home test results at @MakeMyTestCount.org.

Your test results can help @NIHgov and the CDC provide more accurate community levels.

Companies shouldn’t wait for the CDC to set Mask Requirement and enforce it for the safety of the workers and customers. Nothing is more important than our health.

Read the Forbes article and learn the details about ordering the rapid C19 tests at CovidTest.gov. Everyone should order asap because it takes time for the order to be processed and shipped. Free tests will also be distributed at major food banks, according to the @whitehouse.

Factors that cause delay in care and overcrowding at ERs: (Not just in Northeastern Ohio)
1. Uncontrolled spread of respiratory illnesses including RSV, COVID and the Flu
2. Inpatient beds are full
3. ICU bed occupancy is high
4. Hospital closures
5. Staffing shortages due to burnout

We learned a lot from @Ideastreamneo health reporter Taylor Wizner’s interview with @MorningEdition host Amy Eddings, whose research helps us understand the underlying issues that cause U.S.’ hospital system strain today.

Long ER wait times and unsafe patient care conditions aren’t new problems. 2 studies published by JAMA network shows that wait times in the ER is beyond the standard in the U.S. throughout this pandemic. Eddings gave an example that an elderly patient had to wait 9 hours to be seen at an ER and she had to administer her own pain medication.

The U.S. is officially in a flu epidemic. 13,000 people have been hospitalized with the flu, according to @CDCgov. Health officials are preparing to deploy troops and ventilators. Across the country, hospitals are running out of pediatric beds due to infections of #RSV or #COVID_19 or the #Flu. People with underlying medical conditions that make them #immunocompromised are more susceptible to severe illnesses and deaths. Let's do our best to stop the spread.
