Olympic triathlon #2: unlocked a whole new level of mental fortitude 🏊🏼‍♀️🚴🏼‍♀️🏃🏼‍♀️

Cold, rain, wind… definitely not ideal conditions, but sometimes the toughest days teach you the most about yourself. 🌧️💨 This one was as much a mental battle as a physical one, and I walked away having achieved the goal I set for myself.

Couldn’t have done it without my teammate @acolburn2103 — so grateful we got to tackle this one together! 💪🏼❤️

Celebrated the only appropriate way… Dairy Queen🍦

Now it’s time to rest, recover, and dream up the next challenge. Because apparently, I haven’t learned my lesson yet 😉🏁

I woke up race morning, looked out the window, and realized it was literally pouring rain. 🌧️

I was so worried about the water temperature leading up to race day... I never even considered that it would rain the entire time. I’ve never swum open water in the rain. I’ve never biked 18.6 miles on wet roads in cold wind. I didn’t pack for it, and I definitely didn’t train for it.

I was freezing, wet, and uncomfortable from the second I stepped on the site. But that’s where true endurance happens. Endurance is finding rest in the middle of the hard.

“I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” He literally sustained me through the storm, cold winds, and mud. One of the most challenging things I’ve ever done, but He was faithful to protect and carry me through every mile.

Official title unlocked: I am a TRIATHLETE! 🏊‍♀️🚴‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏅

What started as a sprint triathlon on Oct 3 turned into a completely different kind of adventure. Kinda like storm chasers but opposite….storm fleeers! Little did we know it would follow us!

Our original race was postponed, then canceled because of the hurricane. So we found another race on the same day…..trading 13 flat beach miles on the bike for 18.5 hilly miles through the mountains of Tennessee.

The conditions were less than ideal……
Cold. Rainy. Hilly. HARD.

There were so many obstacles along the way that could’ve kept us from the starting line, much less the finish line. (Did I mention I threw up after the swim? 🙈) But sometimes the plans change, the conditions aren’t ideal, and the road is a whole lot harder than you expected. You just keep showing up, keep pushing, and keep going.

We may not have finished the race we originally signed up for, but we finished something even harder than we planned.

The goal didn’t change.
We just had to find a different way to get there.

So proud of what we accomplished and so thankful for a training partner who kept pushing right alongside me. And loved having my people there cheering us on!
One thing’s for sure… we earned this finish!
