In October, we dive deep into what it means to be part of a community: in our homes, our geographies, our faith and our social expectations. From sprawling feature narratives to fly-on-the-wall documentaries, these films dredge up the unforeseen and unexpected circumstances people find themselves in communities from disparate parts of the country.

The films will be introduced by the filmmakers and key collaborators. A post-screening Q&A session will be held for the feature films.

track 2 : moonstruck

this one started in a dim studio, i love what it became. it’s probably one of the most honest songs ive written. it was hard to say out loud but i chased the feeling and stayed til it took shape.
we brought in a string ensemble and the whole thing opened up from there. it slowly became less about building a song and more about it letting it unfold.
there’s a line “did i hit the wrong colour? is this how good it gets?” that i didn’t fully understand at the time but it stayed with me, it carries a lot about identity and how certain things you’re born into can be quietly shape how you move through the world.
i wanted it to just simmer into the night and stay there, like something you don’t resolve but learn to live with.

i know a garden out now :))

starting a track by track series for I KNOW A GARDEN

this is track 1: first time on earth

it began as a simple voice memo, just me and the shruti box & a feeling I didn’t really have language for yet…
we brought it into the studio & the boys @connor_seidel @collinsteinz @itsfoxgraham & i think were trying to hold onto that first spark, the sense of everything feeling new at once.
over time, it became a song about learning how to be here, about arriving into a life, figuring out how to inhabit it, even when it doesn’t fully make sense

i once heard something that stayed with me, that maybe im not from here & i don’t know if i believe it literally but i understood what that feeling was pointing to.

this is the beginning of the album :))

We’ve been sitting with this one for a long time - watching it slowly take shape, in all its versions and seasons. Along the way, it also brought together a really special group of people, creating a community which was central to what this project became.

FOR THE ONES WHO BUILDING A HOME OUT OF FRAGMENTS.. I KNOW A GARDEN is out everywhere now! thank you for being here. ikag feels like the culmination of a long inward journey, a sanctuary mapped from memory, nature and quiet revelation. these songs shimmer like light across water, its luminous but also restless like homecoming but also horizon. this is the first time im releasing something independently so here’s SOME HUGE THANK YOUS TO MY PEOPLE
