It was a big decision to book another train trip immediately following the Hiram Bingham but.... here we are, the very next day, on the @perurail Tititcaca Train. It’s not HB (& to be honest, it’s nowhere near the price!) but it’s understated luxury, delicious food & a magnificent way to travel high through the Andes Mountains. We stopped only once over the 11hour journey at a tiny place called La Raya, altitude 4,319m. Aside from that, it was food, wine, pisco & naps.

Getting to Machu Picchu? Let me make it simple—I’ve done it twice, and here’s everything you need to know to get there stress-free! 🚆⛰️

1️⃣ Cusco → Ollantaytambo (2 hrs by bus or colectivo 🚐) It’s a scenic ride through the Sacred Valley!

2️⃣ Ollantaytambo → Aguas Calientes (1.5-2 hrs by train 🚂) – Book your train ticket in advance with PeruRail or Inca Rail ($50+ one way).
Pro tip: When buying your train ticket, they offer the bus ticket to Ollantaytambo—super convenient!

3️⃣ Aguas Calientes → Machu Picchu (25 min by bus 🚌 or 1-1.5 hr hike 🥾) – The train station is NOT the final stop! You still need to take a green bus ($12 one way) or hike up for free (but it’s a workout).

🎟️ Booking Your Machu Picchu Ticket:
• Buy it in advance on the official site (boletomachupicchu.pe).
• Make sure your entrance time matches your arrival—you only have 30 min of flexibility.
• There are 3 routes to choose from: classic Machu Picchu, Huayna Picchu, or the longer mountain hike.

This is the easiest & smartest way to get there. Would you take the bus or hike up? Let me know! 🚀💪🏼
