Mudskippers are fish that seem to have forgotten they’re supposed to stay in the water.

Found across tropical mangroves and mudflats, these incredible amphibious fish spend much of their time out of water, moving across the mud using their modified pectoral fins, defending territories and even interacting with each other on land.

Watching a fish move across land, disappear into a burrow and then pop back out of the mud is a pretty incredible reminder of just how diverse and adaptable fish can be.

A huge thank you to Penelope @petaira for all the information and plenty of laughs in the field!

The Western Yellowfin Bream (Acanthopagrus morrisoni) is a species found in the northern regions of Australia. It is a protandrous hermaphrodite, transitioning from male to female at approximately 35 cm in length. In Shark Bay, Western Australia, the species forms spawning aggregations and reproduces only a limited number of times during a short spawning season from late winter to early spring.

The species name morrisoni honours Sue Morrison of the Western Australian Museum, who collected the type specimens and tissue samples used in the molecular study that described the species. Her assistance over several years has been instrumental in advancing understanding of the Western Yellowfin Bream in north-western Western Australia.

We had this Swan following us for so long, we thought it was just friendly because that is
their nature. However, on closer inspection, we saw that it had fishing line all around it,
and it wanted us to help it. We captured it using some potato salad and removed the
hooks and line, but, there was another hook down its throat. We didn’t want to risk
injuring it, so we called up our friend @fairy.tern , and she put us in contact with the right people to speak to, and the Swan was taken to the animal hospital to undergo
surgery. A couple of weeks later, we were notified that it was being released, back in the same spot, and with its partner. We were very lucky to see it reunite with its flock and live out its days; that was a special moment.
