Quando la sua famiglia finisce in bancarotta, Jen Stone, interpretata da @jschramer , si ritrova proprietaria di una fattoria di zucche acquistata dal padre come investimento. Abituata alla vita cittadina e a tutt’altro genere di problemi, Jen decide inizialmente di vendere la proprietà per recuperare il denaro necessario a risollevare la situazione familiare. Ma trasferirsi in campagna significa anche confrontarsi con una realtà completamente diversa e soprattutto con Brett, interpretato da Jesse Hutch, il responsabile della fattoria che non vede di buon occhio i suoi propositi.

Peter DeLuise dirige un classico film sentimentale televisivo, semplice e senza particolari ambizioni, puntando soprattutto sul rapporto tra i due protagonisti. La trasformazione di Jen è prevedibile, così come l’evoluzione del rapporto con Brett, ma Jessy Schram riesce a rendere il personaggio abbastanza spontaneo da evitare che tutto risulti eccessivamente costruito. Jesse Hutch funziona bene nel ruolo del pragmatico gestore della fattoria, mentre Rowen Kahn e Barbara Pollard completano un piccolo gruppo di personaggi che contribuisce all’atmosfera familiare del film.

Non è certamente una storia originale e segue quasi alla lettera le coordinate della commedia romantica televisiva, ma possiede una piacevole leggerezza. La campagna, la fattoria di zucche e l’atmosfera autunnale creano un’ambientazione calda e rassicurante, perfetta per una storia che parla soprattutto di cambiamento, seconde possibilità e sentimenti.

Un film semplice, prevedibile e decisamente innocuo, ma proprio per questo capace di regalare un’ora e mezza di intrattenimento senza pretese.

It’s a very sad day ! 1981 visiting the set of best little whorehouse in Texas. Dolly was the sweetest person ever. She went trick-or-treating with me and my family. She showed up to the house dressed up like a pregnant hillbilly with pigtails and you couldn’t tell it was her. We went trick-or-treating in the neighborhood. She had freckles painted on her face and fake teeth. Very committed. The neighbors were very mad they didn’t know it was her till we told them later. Her costume was that good. Thank you for the love you gave the world! RIP
