The great theatre critic and historian @peterfilichia on @hvshakespeare ’s Les Misérables:

“WOAH.”

“This theatre — I’ve never seen anything quite like it.”

“...this production is far superior.”

“The performances were so strong, SO strong, and Jenn Thompson did a MAGNIFICENT job of directing.”

Tonight at Symphony Space: An enchanting Evening with Maury Yeston and Friends with the book launch of A Very Unusual Way, a biography of the celebrated songwriter Maury Yeston, written by Joshua Rosenblum. Peter Filichia hosted.

I’ve been lucky to see the original Broadway productions of the Tony Award-winning musicals with scores by Maury Yeston—Nine, Titanic and Grand Hotel—and his off Broadway effort, the lovely Death Takes a Holiday. I’ve seen several revivals of his shows as well as other tributes to his other works including Phantom, December Songs, and One Two Three Four Five. I know the lyrics to so many of his songs by heart.

Tonight we were treated to thrilling performances by Karen Akers, Shareen Ahmed, Benjamin Eakeley, Elena Shaddow and Jill Paice, accompanied by Fred Lassen on the piano.

Can’t wait to read all about Maury Yeston.

A pretty meaningful way to close the run: a sold-out house, and this generous response from Peter Filichia on BroadwayRadio’s This Week on Broadway.

Peter came to see One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and called the production “an astonishing production.”

For someone who has seen more than 13,000 shows to respond this strongly, and to urge us to bring the show back in a bigger space, meant a lot.

Deeply grateful to @peterfilichia , @broadwayradio , @barefoot_theatre_company , @franciscosolorzano , @sayraplayer, @pontifexproduction, @theplaygroundnyla and this entire wild, generous, fearless ensemble.

What a gift to be part of this one.
