II NOW REPRESENTING II
Galerie Judin is delighted to announce the representation of the Christoph Schlingensief Estate.

Schlingensief (1960–2010) developed a multidisciplinary practice spanning film, theater, opera, performance, and visual art. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, he exposed the fault lines of social, political, and cultural negotiation – anticipating and launching debates, the urgency of which would only become fully perceptible years later.

Working in what he described as "experimental setups," he embraced uncertainty, exaggeration, and contradiction as methods of insight. His projects oscillated between provocation and vulnerability, activating audiences and blurring the boundaries between art and life. Schlingensief insisted on art's social responsibility while relentlessly challenging systems of power and representation.

His contribution to the German Pavilion at the 54th Venice Biennale – implemented posthumously and awarded the Golden Lion – remains a cornerstone of his legacy. Equally enduring is his vision of the "Operndorf" in Burkina Faso, conceived as a space for intercultural exchange and social infrastructure. The artist's estate and the ongoing development of the "Operndorf" are overseen by his long-time partner @ainolaberenz, who has been instrumental in sustaining and expanding his legacy.

After the recent installation of a room dedicated to the artist at the @neuenationalgalerie in Berlin, as part of their permanent collection, a traveling retrospective, "Christoph Schlingensief: ES IST NICHT MEHR MEIN PROBLEM, MACHT EURE SCHEISSE ALLEINE", will be staged at @mak_vienna and @gropiusbau. It is curated by Raphael Gygax with Christopher Wierling in collaboration with Aino Laberenz.

Heute am 4.November 2025 wäre mein Vater Harry Valérien 102 Jahre alt geworden. 🖤
@peterhoennemann

Lots of impressions during some fantastic days in Hamburg! Sometimes there’s pure magic and time stands still. This was the case these days. Lovely to meet old and new friends, playing a house-concert in an incredible atmosphere that truly connects with the origin of chamber music and then playing with the one and only @viktoriatolstoy at the lovely @nica_jazz_club!
Thank you all who came out and showed your love!
Can’t wait to be back!
