A magical weekend celebrating the Bartons 💌♾️

The Westman Islands Golf Club did not disappoint. I’d put its scenery in the same conversation as Pebble Beach and Bandon Dunes. Photos and videos simply can’t capture what it feels like to stand here. 🇮🇸🏌️‍♂️⛳️

$75 USD for 18 holes, it might be one of the greatest values in golf….if you can make it out to the island. 😅

I’ll never forget the first time I discovered this place. After an unforgettable first day exploring Iceland, my friends and I boarded the last ferry to Heimaey just before midnight. We pitched our tents in thick fog and darkness, with no idea what surrounded us.

The next morning, stepping out of the tent felt like landing on another planet. Towering sea cliffs, volcanic landscapes, and endless green stretched in every direction. Then I spotted the golf course. its flags waving in the distance against the vivid grass. Right then, I knew I had to come back someday.

The only difference? Next time, I’d bring my clubs.

A few years later, I finally made it happen, and it was every bit as spectacular as I imagined. 🇮🇸⛳️

When I go on story rants, I never realize that sometimes people want to share the thoughts. So here is yesterday’s impromptu dialogue about publications 📖 I’m going to speak to you all briefly
about publications since you’ll be seeing me show some recent features in the coming month.

Being published is a big
deal to me. There are no
awards or raises or
promotions when
working by yourself for
yourself so magazines &
blogs weirdly affirm
“Hey, your work is solid.
Good job.“

I don’t have a PR team
so getting published is
100% a result of hours
and hours I put in to
promote. SOMETIMES
this is a shared effort by
the team but rarely since
photographers own the
copyright.

A lot of mags have the same launch dates so it seems like crickets all year & then BAM... so it MIGHT seem like these are a dime a dozen and I’m on stands all the time but the reality is, I
send these out all year to different publishers in different formats for different deadlines, multiple times, multiple weddings.

All this to say PLEASE
don’t get excitement
fatigue! Know I’m doing
a little happy dance for
my couple and for my
team when these go to
press! Each one is a big
deal that was very hard work!

Lastly, and probably MOST
importantly: if your wedding isn’t
featured anywhere, that in no way
means it wasn’t stunning or any less
meaningful.

The publishing world is its own ecosystem-
maybe they just published a blue wedding or one at your venue. Maybe they want to feature cars or charity focused weddings that issue. All to say, features are nice but it’s the marriage & relationship that matter!

I think every couple I capture is “magazine worthy” because they’re unique and in love in that moment & that’s beautiful. My hope is that when posting publications it never makes anyone feel less. It can be a roll of the dice & if it’s super important to you, talk to your team before wedding day to have a plan!
