What a night we had. @joellacabalu’s delightful film opened to a full house, with our doc subjects, crew and our @onf_nfb staff in the house. There was a lot of laughter and tears (the good kind), and we loved every second of it, including the great discussions after the credits. There are still two screenings left on Wednesday, Oct 7 and Saturday, October 10. Please join us! @peterplanta @eastwestpip @maryancheta @goforamberleigh @hennamann_ @maddychangfilm @svcal @nfb_katja @justineabigail @matochesm @zeapaehr @mat.vero @dominic.pollard09 @rheric and so many more! Thank you @viffest. You really know how to put on a world class festival.

We caught ‘First Comes Love: Nakabingwit’ at @viffest, and this rom-com documentary had us laughing, reflecting, and rooting for love from beginning to end. Directed by Joella Cabalu, the film takes a warm and honest look at Filipino interracial couples, family, culture, and all the beautiful complications that can come with bringing two worlds together. Funny, heartfelt, and incredibly relatable, ‘First Comes Love: Nakabingwit’ is a reminder that love stories don’t always follow a script, and that’s what makes them worth telling.

@viffest is on this month and we’re proud to see so many UBC Theatre and Film faculty and alumni involved in this year’s festival. From new releases to festival favourites, there’s plenty to discover. Catch their work at the festival, on until October 11. See the full list of UBC THFL creators featured at the festival on our website, link in bio (under News & Events). Congrats to all! P.S. We do our best to include everyone, but if we missed you or someone you know, send us a DM and we’ll add you to the list. 📸: Still from Whatcha Want directed by Mina Shum
