Incredible night! I wrote 12 scenes... maybe more based on @alanis music. All proceeds go to a good cause! Honestly, the work that I saw last night was pretty incredible. I'm still thinking about it. I'm also really happy that we filmed the scenes so the actors can have it and maybe even show some of you. It's truly amazing the power of a great script in the actors' hands and seeing the creative choices they choose, too. We are hoping to do another one in October. Honestly, lost for words. These guys were incredible! It was neat to see my short scripts come to life, too. - - - #WritingLife

There’s something I love about these moments. Petra directing the shoot, Krista making sure Maissa looks perfect between frames, and Maissa being camera ready as always. It feels like stepping into a real 1950s set where everyone had a role in bringing the final image to life. The entire goal of this series was to create behind-the-scenes moments like this, as if they were pulled straight from another era. The teamwork, the movement, the tiny interactions between shots… those details make the photos feel alive to me. And Fatima absolutely brought all three looks together flawlessly. Seeing the hair and makeup side by side like this really shows how much care and character she put into every detail. She’s incredible. This might be my favourite character from the entire 1950s series. Naturally, I’m biased. 📸 There’s something so cool about seeing Petra step into the role of a 1950s photographer. The wardrobe, the attitude, the subtle confidence in the way she carried herself… it all clicked into place so naturally. Photographing this set felt like stepping into another era for a moment, and I loved every second of capturing it. And once again, Fatima absolutely nailed the hair and makeup for this look. Every character in this series felt distinct and believable because of the care and detail she brought to each transformation. Sharing the last of five sets ahead of my SPAO documentary critique tomorrow. . Here’s Petra shown two ways: Platon on the left, Arnaud Maggs grid on the right. The close-up stares straight at you while you’re busy decoding the grid. . Try swiping back and forth a few times and then just sit with both for a minute. Things shift when you linger. Curious what you notice. Drop a comment if something clicks. . All shot on film, partly because feeds are drowning in AI slop and partly because photography is proof someone was here. This fall, I had the pleasure of directing and co-writing a short film for the first time! This was for the Digi60 film festival here in Ottawa (@digi.60). We used some improv to help write the script! The 6-minute film (“We See You”) is about three women over the age of 55 who meet in a clinic waiting room and discuss the challenges of menopause and aging. It’s a lighthearted comedy that got a lot of audience response when screened at the festival! You can see it through the link in bio. A huge thank you to the cast and crew who made this film come to life and taught me filmmaking! Special thanks to Heather for enthusiastically joining as our first collaborator on this film! Heather‘s insight guided the course of the film right from the beginning. Additional thanks to Petra and Dawn whose further insights, thoughts and words, along with Heather’s, formed the script!
