Park 1 on my journey to my motherland. New Mexico reminds me of my mom and I miss her so much tonight.

Tomorrow is a travel day to Santa Fe with a stop in Grants and Albuquerque.

And I still haven’t had fry bread or hatch chili 🌶️ ;)

🌎 Some national parks look like they belong on another planet.

And these two are proof.

🎨 1 — Petrified Forest National Park: Colorful badlands, ancient petrified wood, and landscapes that seem almost unreal.

⛰️ 2 — Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park: Towering cliffs, a river far below, and views that will absolutely test your fear of heights.

Two completely different kinds of natural wonder.

You can explore ONE tomorrow. Travel is covered.

👇 Are you choosing 1 or 2?

Our teens were fully prepared to complain the entire way up, but I guess we rocked it with this location. Safe to say the bad mood disappeared the second we turned the corner.

Petrified Forest, with its giant crystallized logs, and the magical landscape of Blue Mesa is 10/10 worth getting out of bed for!

Cross Country Diaries • Day 2/4 🌵

I had NO idea what to expect from Petrified Forest National Park.

This was one of the parts of my cross-country trip I purposely didn’t research much. I wanted to leave a few places as surprises and let the adventure unfold as I went.

And oh my goodness, I’m so happy I did.

The second I entered the park I was surrounded by these colorful landscapes, and they kept changing as I drove. Then I finally got to the petrified trees and could not stop staring at them. They’re stunning!

Some of these trees are more than 200 million years old, and what was once wood is now quartz. Up close, they’re filled with the most incredible reds, yellows, purples and crystal patterns. I had no idea I’d be able to walk up to them and see all of that detail.

This area was once a humid, tropical climate with rivers and huge trees. Trying to wrap my brain around that while standing in the middle of the Arizona desert was WILD.

I only had about three hours, so there was no hiking this time. I just drove through the park and wandered around the different stops, and I still left feeling like I’d seen SO much. I could easily spend an entire day exploring.

This is exactly why I’ll squeeze a National Park into any trip I possibly can. You never really know what you’re going to find.

This one was absolutely worth the stop 🧡✨

Apparently my definition of “moving across the country” was seeing how many adventures I could possibly fit between Las Vegas and Kentucky.

Day 2 started in Peteified Forest National Park and ended somewhere in Texas.

That sentence alone makes me so happy.

I had a LOT of miles to cover, but I couldn’t imagine being this close to places I’d never seen before and just driving past them.

So I spent the morning exploring Petrified Forest National Park, got back in the car, and then drove as far as I possibly could before calling it a night.

No hotel reservations. No rushing to make a check-in time. Just a general direction, a very full itinerary, and the freedom to see how far the day would take me.

I think that’s part of what made this trip feel so magical.

For four days, my entire job was basically to keep moving toward my new life and see as much as I possibly could along the way.

And I was loving every second of it. ♡

Day 2 complete. Next stop → more of Route 66 🤠

#NationalPark number 9! @petrifiedforestnps is one of my favorites, and not just because they allow me on the trails 😁

There are amazing overlooks, so many colors, and the petrified wood is mind-blowing! We had to skip Blue Mesa since we had places to be, but it's always good to leave a little bit for next time.

Reminder: do NOT touch or remove the petrified wood! I will bite you if I see that! 👿

Glad to have the @rivianofficial #R2 to get us there! 🚙
