What a night! Our first Garden Retail Women’s Network function exceeded all expectations!
We have been absolutely blown away by the positive feedback from those who joined us at Garden Gallery Kew as well as from women who joined via Zoom from around Australia and even from the UK!
It was wonderful to see women from across greenlife to giftware, hardware to hospitality as well as suppliers come together to connect, share experiences and build relationships. That is exactly what this network is about — creating a space for women across all facets of garden retail to come together.
A huge thank you to Natasha Morgan for being our special guest and sharing such an honest & inspiring presentation about her journey.
We were also thrilled to celebrate the launch of Natasha’s new book, The Productive Garden Companion, which is now available through Murdoch Books.
It was a fantastic way to launch the Garden Retail Women’s Network and we are so excited about where this group can go next.
Thank you to everyone who came along, joined online, shared their ideas and helped make our first gathering so special. This is just the beginning & we welcome your suggestions and feedback!

Hey Melbourne, let's talk about the little things that carried us through the big things.

This October's show is Choosing Hope: Stories of what got us through. Six women, from their 20s to their 70s and beyond, share the unexpected, often hilarious and sometimes tender moments that helped them through hard times. There are no perfect endings here, just honest stories of resilience, humour, and the kind of hope that sneaks up on you.

💫 Our Storyteller Line-up:

Team 20s: Vianca Jasmin Anglo is a social worker with experience in community development, public health and aged care across the Philippines and Australia. She champions compassionate, strengths-based support.

Team 30s: Hannah Fearnside has a decade of practice and policy experience in family violence and family law. A 2026 delegate to UN CSW and Women Deliver, she champions access to justice and gender equality.

Team 40s: Candy Bowers is a multi-award-winning writer, performer and director and NIDA graduate. She curated Afrocentric at the Triennial (NGV International) and wrote on ABC's Happy House.

Team 50s: Petrina Burrill is a gardener and florist of 30+ years with over 700,000 social media followers worldwide. Her book Garden Joy, on resilience, joy, grief and hope, is out next March.

Team 60s: Ruth Katerelos is a Melbourne actor, singer, writer and psychologist with over 25 years in therapeutic practice. She has appeared in numerous plays, and on screen in Bloom and Maybe Tomorrow.

Team 70s+: Maie Tonuma arrived in Australia in 1949 after a childhood in refugee camps. A nurse, lifelong learner and devoted mother, she began university at 40 and earned a PhD at 70.

As a passionate gardener of dahlias & ranunculus, the one thing I’ve never quite mastered is the art of flower arranging. In a rare moment of ‘me’ time, I spent the morning last week with Petrina ( my husband and I admired her from Gardening Australia ) whose garden was like stepping into a fairytale! We spent the morning learning the steps to flower arranging , topping it off with a chat, delicious tea and cake! Thank you @petrinablooms what a secret little Melbourne gem!

I have been feeling a bit overwhelmed by life recently, so when my gorgeous friend invited me to take a tour of @petrinablooms garden this morning, it was every bit the breath of fresh air and inspiration I needed. Truly glorious in all its wild, rambly, floral bounty - mother nature's paintbox. Petrina is a total delight as well - and she has written a book which sounds incredible (pre orders for March 27!) Xx

Well, this was definitely one of the most magical spring mornings. Stepping into @petrinablooms garden felt like seeing a magical fairytale in real life. 🥹✨

What an extraordinary woman. She has taken a suburban backyard and turned it into a whimsical beautiful experience.

I was blown away and so incredibly inspired.

Plus getting to learn from Petrina and go through an incredible flower arranging workshop was such a joy.

Earlier this year I was lucky enough to meet @petrinablooms at the Melbourne Flower & Garden Show, and she’s genuinely one of the reasons I’ve gone so hard with growing flowers this spring.

So getting to step inside her garden, pick flowers straight from the beds and learn the art of flower arranging from her felt a little bit magical.

We learnt about colour, texture, height and movement, drank tea, ate beautiful cake and spent the afternoon surrounded by flowers and fellow garden lovers. Basically my idea of heaven. 😂🌸

But one thing Petrina shared really stayed with me.

Life will always have hard moments, which is exactly why creating beauty and magic around us matters. It fills our cups, gives us energy and makes the harder parts of life feel a little lighter.

And Petrina has truly created that kind of world in her garden. Every little corner feels joyful, whimsical and full of life. 🌷

So maybe this is your little reminder to create a bit more beauty in your own corner of the world.
