The AWARE Ball - theme : HopePunk

19 Sept 2026

Honoured to have hosted again (I believe my 15th year!) at one of my favourite charities. This year I also took on extra duties by writing and directing the entertainment segment which involved audience participation in the form of voting and enthusiastic sing-along! Going by the rousing reaction, I think it was a success! We love voting at AWARE 😉

So good to have rock-steady Timothy Wan host with me and also the brilliant musical talents @mrjulian.official and @johnleepc! Thank you for making such impossibly beautiful music in a comedy skit - we had such fun at rehearsals messing around with lyrics and spoofing the hell out of some NDP songs.

A bonus when my fabulous friends won the Best Dressed Table prize too! Every year they come with high concept fashion statements and this year they finally won! Congrats to ring leaders @alantheseah @shamayn @dodgy_yamamoto and the entire table including my sister from another mister @petrinakow

We raised about $850K for AWARE and its new home! If you’d like to contribute to Singaoore’s more awesome gender equality charity, please visit aware.org.sg to contribute. Time and money both very welcome!

And then we were all singing Country Roads together...what a lovely way to spend a Sunday afternoon unlearning and relearning how to breathe with @petrinakow . She created a safe and open space for us to learn, share and be. Loved it so much, it's been ages since I last touched Fitzmaurice Voicework. Thank you Petrina for this opportunity to ground and be present with all the voices in the room.

Her workshop is coming up. Do check it out..

when doing Fitzmaurice Voicework, why is it that some people start laughing, some cry, while some lie on their yoga mats wondering if they’re broken because they’re not feeling any kind of emotional outburst? (me)

in this clip, @petrinakow reflects on the emotions that can arise during voicework. the aim isn’t to force a release; as she puts it, the practice can be therapeutic, but it isn’t therapy. it’s an invitation to notice what’s happening and make room for change.

the first time I did Fitzmaurice Voicework I was struck by how free my voice sounded within a short one-hour session, but it didn’t surprise me at all — we carry so much tension from the bad habits we’ve formed over the course of life, trying to manipulate our voices to fit what we’ve been told it should sound like.

returning to @grandhyattsing for a second year after its inaugural run last year as the first time a hotel wellness facility was introducing Fitzmaurice Voicework classes as part of its holistic wellness offerings, Vocal Breathwork with Petrina Kow invites actors and professionals alike to explore greater freedom in their voices. The weekly series runs this October at Damai House, on 4, 11, 25 October, and 1 November.

Limited trial slots are available this Sunday, 27 September, 3-5pm. For more information, visit bit.ly/hyattbreathwork. Link in bio!

award-winning actress @yeoyannyann talks about her first time experiencing Fitzmaurice Voicework with Petrina Kow at Damai House.

on 10 September, @petrinakow joined forces with @millerbudi and @yeoyannyann to discuss what it means to find your voice, and how methodologies originally developed for actor training can prove to be very powerful for regular everyday working professionals trying to become better public speakers or simply express themselves with more authenticity.

returning to @grandhyattsing for a second year, Vocal Breathwork with Petrina Kow invites actors and professionals alike to unlock what it means to find freedom in one’s voice. running this October as a weekly series at Damai House. limited slots are available for trials this Sunday, 27 September, 3-5pm.

how can @fitzmauricevoicework originally developed for actor training help us unlock our authentic selves and find freedom in our voices at work, even if work for us looks more like a boring open concept hot desk co-working space than a stage, more often than not?

when I quit my job to ~embark on a journey to figure out what I want to do with my life~ one of my first big treats to myself was a spot at the inaugural run of Vocal Breathwork with Petrina Kow @petrinakow at @grandhyattsing last year — I went into it hoping to fix my eternal love-hate relationship with my singing voice, and came out realising that if I get stuck with writer’s block or need help figuring out what I’m trying to express that’s being held back by the polyphony of voices that sometimes clash, I can just get into a dynamic effort (something like a yoga pose) and start tremoring and somehow turn the physical release of tension into mental release.

this year’s series starts on October 4, and if you’re interested in checking it out before committing, we’re doing a trial session this Sunday, 27 September, 3-5pm! Sign up at bit.ly/hyattbreathwork

After. Part 3 of 3.

After is not the end of the story. It is the beginning of a different one.

It is learning to live in a body that has been through war. Finding out who you are now, on the other side of something you never asked for. It is gratitude and grief, sometimes in the same breath.

And for 26 of some of thr most extraordinary people we have ever met, it was also this. A runway. A room full of people on their feet. A moment that said, you are here, you are seen, and what you went through matters. A moment to celebrate that ONE DAY OF HAPPINESS because It Matters.

We are raising $250,000 for the @nationalcancercentresg Cancer Fund. Proceeds goes towards funding cancer research, the care, and the support that makes After possible for more people.

We are still ways off our target. Help us reach our goal. Donations are 250% tax deductible and you can find the donation link in our bio. Every dollar matters. No amount is too small 💛

During. Part 2 of 3.

Nobody can ever prepare you for what During feels like. Not the textbooks, brochures or the well-meaning people who say you’ll be fine.

During is the treatment that takes more than it gives, at least for a while. It is the days you cannot get out of bed and the days you dig deep to find it within to power through anyway. It is learning, very quickly, who shows up and who disappears.

In Part 2, our Model Ambassadors speak about the middle of the story. the part that is hardest to tell and hear, just so someone out there know that they are not alone. It matters that these stories are told and that you hear them.

Help us reach our S$250,000 fundraising goal for the NCCS Cancer Fund. Your donation funds the research and care that carries people through their During.

Thank you @petrinakow, @yeoyannyann, and @budimillertraining for a fascinating evening sharing your techniques.

I highly encourage everyone to watch the beautifully shot and acted We Are All Strangers in cinemas right now, to see both Yann Yann and Petrina show off their considerable chops!

Before. Part 1 of 3.

There is a moment before the diagnosis that nobody talks about. The scan you almost didn’t book. The symptom you sometimes chose to dismiss. Because we always think that “IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN TO ME”.

In this first of three films, our Model Ambassadors take us back to that moment. The one they never saw coming. The fear they didn’t know how to name. And the impossible task of telling the people they love.

This is Before.

Watch till the end, and when you’re done, ask yourself, when was the last time you had a health screening done?

Help us reach our $250,000 fundraising goal for the @nationalcancercentresg Cancer Fund. Because early detection matters. Research matters and every single dollar matters.

I managed to watch "We Are All Strangers" (PG13: Some Coarse Language & Sexual References) after my work just now at Golden Village Bugis+ as to support the local film as well to complete the "Grow-Up Trology" by Koh Jia Ler, Yeo Yann & Anthony Chen. I feel surprised to see Petrina Kow the Radio DJ I admire when I was a teen appeared in this movie as I was thinking who was the lady acting the mother of the young female protagonist in this movie. I feel this movie is awesome as the love relationship for the Father & Son in angles: Young & old. #weareallstrangersmovie #sgmovies #supportlocal #moviemonday #我们不是陌生人
