“I refuse to let my dad die in vain.”

Phoebe’s words say so much about what it means to watch someone you love live with dementia.

When her dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, Phoebe found herself having to navigate the reality of a terminal diagnosis, the uncertainty of what comes next, and the heartbreak of watching someone you love change.

But there’s another frustration she shouldn’t have to carry…

“How old is he?” - It’s a question many are frequently asked when they tell people about a dementia diagnosis.

And it highlights something we desperately need to change.

Dementia does not discriminate.

It is not simply a condition that comes with getting old. Dementia can affect people in their 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s and beyond. When it happens earlier in life, families can be left facing years of uncertainty, disrupted careers, caring responsibilities and a future they never expected.

We need to do better.
We need to understand dementia better.
We need to recognise it earlier.
We need to support families better.
And we need to stop treating dementia as an inevitable part of ageing.

Phoebe, along with our incredible team, are taking on Mount Kilimanjaro not just as a physical challenge but as a chance to make dementia visible.

Together, we’re raising awareness, challenging misconceptions and helping shine a light on what dementia really means for families.

And behind every step up that mountain is a reason to keep going. For Phoebe, it’s her dad.🩷

We’re incredibly proud to have you on this team, Phoebe. 🫶
