Black belt ❤️🖤

Today was truly surreal.
A culmination of almost 13 years as a Jiu Jitsu practitioner.

I am so grateful that I got to share this moment with Everett, who has been in the gym watching me train and teach his whole life.

The two hardest, and most rewarding, things I have done in my life are Jiu Jitsu and being a mom.

Both have saved me.
Transformed me.
And provided endless lessons about perseverance and relentlessly pursuing what you love.

I hope one day Everett looks back and realizes all that this black belt means.

To my @ntxmma family, I cannot describe how grateful I am. To be somewhere with people that genuinely love and support you is life changing. The cheers, tears and hype for this special moment in my life meant so much.

@virgil.allen2 thank you so much for everything.
Our shared love, lineage and appreciation for @octaviocoutobjj made this was a sweet, full circle moment in my jiu jitsu career.

@jordan_the3rd getting me to come to NTX was one of the best decisions of my life and I’m so grateful for it!

@txgrappler71 thank you for all that you guys have done to support me, from giving me a coaching home to encouraging and helping with the @theempowermentproject.co - my life has changed for the better since coming to NTX.

I have come so far and I have much to learn.
I’m so excited and grateful for this next chapter.

Six years ago I published the first episode of Civics & Coffee. My goal was to share the stories of our past in short, bite size bits for busy adults to spark curiosity, showcase the importance & utility of knowing history, while demonstrating it can also be fun.

What a ride it’s been. Thank you. 💗

WEEK 2: THE ROAD TO PHILADELPHIA

This week’s focus is how we even got to a Constitutional Convention in the first place—because the official story isn’t just wrong. It’s propaganda.

The discussion prompt and our YouTube Live session (tomorrow afternoon) are all linked through Patreon.

🚨 So, Arash Azizi thinks the only “real” historians are PhDs in academia, and that reading is the only form of valid scholarship. 🤔 Let’s break that down.

1️⃣ History is NOT a gated community. It’s a conversation happening in real-time, right where people are—on TikTok, Instagram, YouTube. 📲 The women of The Humanities Guild, many without PhDs, are at the forefront of this fight, making history accessible, accountable, and honest. They’re tackling pseudohistory head-on, while Azizi clings to his old-school, elitist views. 🙄

2️⃣ Dismissing public historians—especially the incredible women on TikTok—as not “bona fide” is not just wrong; it’s pure misogyny. 🛑 They’re doing the real work, battling misinformation and making history relevant to everyday lives. 💪 They’re rewriting the rules of engagement while academics like Azizi stay stuck in their safe bubbles.

3️⃣ Let’s be clear: Azizi’s call for “more reading” is a cop-out, a desperate attempt to keep the gates closed and the club exclusive. But public history is about busting those gates wide open. 🔓 It’s about making history real, relevant, and responsive to the world we live in NOW.

So, @arashaziziii and all the gatekeepers like him—either step up and join us in the real world, or step aside. History is alive, kicking, and happening RIGHT HERE. 🎥✊

This strikingly ill-informed @theatlantic article completely misses where the real work is getting done. @arashaziziii focuses on traditional historians’ failures but overlooks the fact that public historians are actually leading the charge against misinformation, especially in digital spaces. It’s public historians who are making history accessible and relevant on platforms like TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram, directly engaging audiences with the stories that matter. The fight for historical truth isn’t happening in the ivory tower—it’s happening online, in real-time, where public historians are making an impact every day. 📚🔥
