There are many things of this world that I do not understand that call on me to dig deep and Forgive. Forgiveness requires empathy and compassion. Without empathy and compassion, forgiveness cannot take place. What is even more important and just as difficult is to have empathy and compassion for oneself in order to forgive myself first so I may forgive another in order for the healing process to happen. Forgiveness is not a one time action nor event; it is a practice that may have to be repeated over many years and in some cases lifetimes especially when a trauma has been experienced. 🌸
When a loved one’s actions are a result of their own traumas, I do have to dig deep to forgive. The act of forgiving goes beyond the trauma itself; it can present itself in other ways where resilience is called upon to have the courage to continue living this life with grace. 🌸
If you are not familiar with the difference between empathy and sympathy, I invite you to check Dr @brenebrown video on Empathy vs Sympathy. 🌸

Whether you’ve experienced trauma or not, the lens in which we see the world sometimes has to be jolted off our being in order for us to experience and see the world anew. For me, travel, meditation and creative expressions jolt the lens off my being. It’s when I am in these modalities that I am unencumbered by my trauma or memories that hold residence in my body; it is during this time that I am truly free even from myself, the self called ego. .

Mistakes. People make them. I make them. Mistakes are made when we’re in a hurry, when we are not present, naive, unintentionally hurt someone and sometimes even with the best of intentions to do the right thing...the right thing becomes a mistake. One of the reasons I made or make mistakes (and by no means the only reason) is that it’s difficult to not react under my lens of trauma. Trauma especially from CSA can cloud one’s ‘lens’ on how the information/situation is received/interpreted/perceived. I used to think a mistake was a ‘mis - take’. But now I choose to look at as ‘mi - stake’ as in ‘My Stake’. What is ‘my stake’ in this situation/information. This is my new tool to take responsibility of my mistakes. It is a challenge to take on this viewpoint but I do believe that it is a healthier way to live as an adult vs constantly protecting the child inside. .

It would be decades before I heard the term ‘healthy boundaries’. As a child, I was not taught what body boundaries looked like nor were they defined. The touch of trauma became normalized in my body during my youth. When I was in my teens, I connected to songs and quotes that spoke to pain. Later I entered into relationships with men under the naïveté of love only to be reminded, reduced and identified as broken because of my trauma.
When I fell so far down the ‘rabbit hole’ of pain, I was lucky to have hit the bottom of the hole only to look up and see a twinkle of light. I honestly don’t know why but that little glimmer of light was enough for me to have hope to get out of my ‘rabbit hole’. Fortunately I had a job that I did well at and was forced to be around people even though I wanted to hide in a closet. Journaling once again became my friend and tool to help me through my shame, pain, disappointment and fear.
Therapy coupled with seeking my own healing journey through books, conferences and workshops I was introduced to the term ‘healthy boundaries’. I practice healthy boundaries everyday. It’s not always easy to practice it and ask for what I need but I’m getting better at it. Many unhealthy habits were practiced for quite awhile (such as yelling as a defense mechanism) and it feels good to have healthy boundaries to practice healthy habits that allow me to grow from my trauma; no longer to be reduced to it. Those days are long gone. .

No matter the wound, allow the light in and heal. The healing journey is one that allows us to acknowledge our vulnerability so we may know both pain and joy. Light has many frequencies shedding various colours of healing energy on our wounds. May the colours of light shine through so your pain will soon allow you to know joy. .

My magical moment between thought and action happened years ago when I thought I was going to leap off an overpass onto the busy freeway below. Magic is why I am still alive today.
In the past, I used to allow my trauma consume me to the point I believed that my life was insignificant and meaningless. By doing the hard work and undoing the knots of pain and self-abuse, I now live my life with meaning and purpose. My trauma still reminds me it’s there inside of me but I no longer allow it to lead me nor do I try to hide it in a locked closet. Instead I take its hand and allow it to walk with me. I hold hands with every former version of myself making sure to not leave a version behind. Sometimes an experience will inform me of a version I did leave behind and it becomes another opportunity to do the hard work to find her and bring her with me.

I am grateful to @pherialditarnold for allowing me to share her art of photography. Her photograph is the background for today’s post. If you want to be inspired by beauty, follow @pherialditarnold or order a photograph from her. ...
