Some Sundays are meant for something different.

Plastic Sofa Sundays is where the music stretches out, the genres cross paths, and the good stuff gets room to breathe. Soul, jazz, funk, disco, house, and everything in between. No boundaries. Just good music.

Last Sunday, @dj_reyhines1 put on a clinic. This Sunday, October 18, we’re celebrating the birthday of Detroit’s own Malik Alston, a musician, producer, DJ, and true architect of the city’s sound.

Over the weekend, I was honored to interview the great @tmantmythtlegend at his Detroit gallery. Gallery owner, educator, entrepreneur, philanthropist, dreamer, doer, George N’Namdi is the personification of a Renaissance man. The interview was the culmination of an art-hop put on by the Touch of Wisdom Foundation. I have known George for years and he was as he always is; witty, funny and real. Here we are with his children, during the interview, and with the audiences. It was great conversation on art and its impact and the resurgence of Detroit! @nnamdicenter

Giiivvveee THANKS for the Queen @jessicacaremoor! Last night, it truly was a family fun night in celebration of the release of her latest work, the #BRILLIANT album, #TheHouseThatPoemsBuilt (available everywhere!) featuring nothing but Detroit genius.

I am honored to have contributed and collaborated with my sis on “DHS POEM No. 7” on the album. This entire piece of work is so good, yall! The production quality is outstanding and jessica is shining like never before.

No phones. No problem. Of course I went to Day 1!

The band, the Background! The set, the hair changes.. the travel down the timeline music history was just what I needed.

Live Music “ feeds the soul”.

On the last kid free weekend, I decided exuding in feminine energy was the only way to celebrate my time without the four young men in my life. I decided to over consume “Live Music”

The only way to ride up to a concert is of course with this company.

Seen someone of my favorite people.

Never forget how beautiful @thefoxtheatredetroit is. The new Detroit, they are trying to build out of glass and minimalist nothings can’t even compare! To the minds and architecture that Detroit still has standing.

Of course I got a ride back.

When @savwoirfaire_ is in town it’s always a link.

Pit stop to @fatherforgivemedet for the opening ceremonies of Month of Design.

2 glasses of wine… I’m a grown woman.

If I were a man.. this would be my style.

Thinking:

The fact that there is nothing to eat in Detroit at 12 is an issue that needs to be resolved.

As well as how they keep building down there and no where to park.

We could use some of that money in “Detroit” not just Downtown.

Sometimes the best plans are the ones you didn’t plan.

When our @missjillscott concert was rescheduled and it was too late to cancel our rooms at @godfreyhoteldetroit , @gretchiede, @ronnehorsley, @meluetke and I decided there was only one thing to do: head up I-75 and make our own Detroit adventure. 🚗

We started @thecongregationdetroit, where we experienced @jagstudio.art’s beautiful Crawl Before Walking exhibition, then on to @vesperbooksandwine and an absolutely delicious dinner @barda_detroit . Good food, great conversation, lots of laughter and pure joy carried us through the evening before ending the night with a rooftop toast @godfreyhoteldetroit 🥂

The next morning brought breakfast at @folkdetroit, then boutique shopping at the magnificent @fisherbldgdet, a stop at @bjeweledboutique 🩷💚(owned by a Soror) and @faircloth.boutique where their mantra, “Stay Fancy,” is forever right up my alley. 🎉💋⭐️

No @missjillscott concert this time, but Detroit still gave us exactly what we needed: friendship, art, food, fashion, laughter and a reminder that sometimes the detour becomes the destination. ❤️

Always a good time in the Motor City, especially with girlfriends who make the journey just as wonderful as the destination.
