Plastic is everywhere, so familiar it almost disappears. It preserves our food, saves lives, offers convenience and pleasure, yet leaves behind consequences that last far longer than its intended use. ♻️ Welcome back to our Conditions Allow Artist Deep Dive series! For our fifth feature, we're highlighting Philippe Hyojung Kim and their work, (Un)Earthly Delights. Bright, fluorescent, and almost otherworldly, Kim's work draws us into a world of synthetic beauty. Its vibrant colors and playful, campy sensibility are captivating, but there's something unsettling beneath the surface. As the title suggests, (Un)Earthly Delights captures a moment caught between earthly pleasures and planetary destruction, wrapped in the alluring glow of plastic. Kim examines our complicated relationship with a material that has transformed nearly every aspect of modern life while concealing its own history and environmental impact. Endlessly adaptable and capable of taking almost any form, plastic is also remarkably stubborn. The objects we create from it may serve their purpose in minutes, but their remains can linger for generations. Beneath its glossy surfaces and promises of convenience lies a history entangled with colonialism, capitalism, and consumption. Plastic has become so ordinary, so inseparable from our daily routines, that we rarely consider the systems that brought it into our lives or the consequences of what we leave behind. In (Un)Earthly Delights, Kim approaches these contradictions with humor, curiosity, and even affection. The material's seductive qualities become part of the conversation, reflecting our desires, dependencies, and the environmental realities we continue to confront. Kim invites us to reconsider our relationship with plastic and what it means to care for something we've created, consumed, and discarded, but cannot easily escape. @philippepirrip Experience (Un)Earthly Delights in Conditions Allow, on view until November 6, 2026. 📍 NSC Art Gallery | North Seattle College #ConditionsAllow #NSCArtGallery #PhilippeHyojungKim #ContemporaryArt #SeattleArts #MaterialExploration

🎉💫Please join us on Friday, 10/2, 4:30-7PM, for the opening reception of our first exhibition, “underhand, overhand, backstops, treetops, zaps” by Christopher Paul Jordan (@cpauljordan)!🎊✨   🌈Exhibition Run: 10/2 – 30, 2026    💁Opening Reception: Fri, 10/2, 2026, 4:30-7pm 🎤Artist Lecture: Fri, 9/25, 2026, 11:30AM-12:30PM at the Raisbeck Auditorium From Philippe Hyojung Kim (@philippepirrip), Behnke Family Gallery Curator: “This exhibition is a window through memories—memories of our shared stories and experiences, personal and collective, that are ever present, never lost, and often quietly linger throughout our lives, only becoming noticeable, palpable, and real to us when we allow ourselves a moment to peer into their depth. Christopher Paul Jordan works with the fractured remnants of peeled, dislocated paintings, reassembling their remains using window screens and salvaged canvases to explore questions around community, history, and home. Jordan’s work traces these varied back-and-forth paths of memories and their trajectories, transforming the gallery exhibition space into an interactive time capsule, pulling from coloring books, playgrounds, murals and neighborhood artifacts to pictured histories of Hilltop and the greater Puget Sound. The centerpiece of this exhibition, therefore, is essentially participatory, drawing on childhood rituals to usher forsaken memories back into circulation. The exhibition instigates embodied recollection, where images and community heirlooms steeped in history offer touchstones to renegotiate present and future possibilities.”

Set in a clearing, we come upon a vessel animal. WALKDONTRUN is encountering the novel, islands under skyscrapers, expanding, witnessing and participating. I look up at the city we built as creators, teams of animators, civic leaders, artists and collaborators, Kira Burge and the boy in the red shirt asking who needs towels. When the weight of an egg takes me both hands to lift, seeing a flood of sparkling mica poured by 20 gods I’ve never met before, I look out on this landscape: the 16-foot table hauled in on shoulders, with weed sprayers making rain, buckets catching rivers, soapy towels in circles and everybody working together, levitating. I get lifted, and we are making things bigger than one person can on their own. I am not painting this year on WALKDONTRUN Saturday, September 19th, 2026. I am pouring in our women’s prison and with friends with brain injuries. This project also gets us onto the stage of the Moore Theatre. I hope to pour with you then.

throwback to six months ago planning the kickoff of @artandcultureweek with WALKDONTRUN and several more incredibly talented, amazing community leaders. now we’re five days out from the big show on Sept 19th and coming down the stretch in our final push for fundraising to close the gap: >>> $35K to go >>> we are soooo close >>> we have accomplished so much for our artists, our city, and ultimately our community to flourish and come together through arts + culture this saturday. when we build IRL engagements like WALKDONTRUN with intention and purpose—we can really go the distance as a city. now’s your chance to help us cross that finish line and cover the remaining $35K goal that will support our event production, administrative fees, and licensing costs (note—all the artists are 💯 paid). if you can throw down, please do. it’s tax deductible and every single bit helps. you can donate using our link in bio or WALKDONTRUN-sea.org . we are oh so grateful in advance. #walkdontrun #artisthemovement #donate #supportartists #artmusicperformance
