📌 SEND this to the friend who still has a 2012 indie folk playlist saved.

Millennial Optimism had a sound, and it went stomp, clap, HEY.

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros started it with Home in 2009, all whistling and “home is wherever I’m with you.” Then it took over the charts: fun. with We Are Young, The Lumineers with Ho Hey, Mumford & Sons in vests and beards with actual banjos in the Top 40, Of Monsters and Men shouting hey in Little Talks, and Phillip Phillips turning Home into an Idol coronation and an Olympics montage. Every ad, every coffee shop, every millennial burger joint ran on handclaps and gang vocals. By 2015 it was just gone.

The anthem of the whole era: We Are Young or Ho Hey?👇
