MIDDAY ON ORMOC BAY

Midday light danced on the waters of the bay as we gathered at @martasresort for a lunch that felt far more like a reunion than a meeting. It was a beautiful blurring of worlds, bringing together my co-Manila visitors @pepperteehankee, @fooddudeph, and @patmgo, some of my local writing workshop participants like the violinist @felipjahmozart, and Ormoc City Mayor @lucytgomez with her daughter @gomezjuliana. Joined by @nelson_alindogan, @sergiecat_dolls, @phiyey, and the resort proprietors, sisters @mariaritablanc and @septembersea, we watched the table fill with plates of crispy dinuguan, fresh tuna poke, clam and fish tinola, and savory lamb stew, followed by a final, sweet indulgence of piña and their celebrated pancake. We traded stories ranging from traditional ungga-ungga to the latest buzz from Kumbira, losing track of time so completely that parting became such a challenge. Twilight is maybe the best hour to return, especially to sit in the outdoor gazebo and watch the sky slowly surrender to the warm, golden brushstrokes of evening.
