October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. 🎀 I’m proud to be partnering with @breastcancercdn and @phnxcosmetics to support their Close the Gap campaign.

There are so many incredible causes and organizations that deserve our support, including amazing local organizations. This is simply one national cause I’ve personally chosen to partner with and support.

The goal of Close the Gap is to address the reality that not all Canadians receive equal breast cancer care and to support research, advocacy and education that can help improve care and outcomes.

As someone who has personally experienced breast cancer, this is something I care deeply about. I’m incredibly grateful for the research and medical advances that were available to me — and I want that same opportunity for everyone facing a breast cancer diagnosis.

I was SO tired of choosing between makeup that performed… and skin that didn’t break out. 💄

For years, I loved high-performance makeup - but my skin didn’t.

I would wear products that looked beautiful, lasted all day and gave me the coverage I wanted… only to deal with breakouts afterward.

And eventually, I just didn’t want to do that anymore.

1. your first 100 posts are supposed to be bad. post them anyway. you learn more from creating 100 pieces of content than you ever will from trying to perfect 10.

2. stop trying to “beat the algorithm.” learn how to make people care. hooks, storytelling, emotion, relatability & giving someone a reason to stay will take you way further than hashtags ever will.

3. you don’t need to have your niche perfectly figured out before you start. you figure out what you want to be known for by actually creating.

4. not every post needs to perform well to be worth posting. some posts bring views, some build trust, and some help people get to know YOU.

5. the post you spend 3 hours perfecting can flop while the one you almost didn’t post takes off lol. stop treating every post like a final exam.

6. going viral and building a community are NOT the same thing. views are exciting, but the right people wanting to come back matters more.

7. pay attention to what works, but don’t just keep recreating the same post forever. figure out why it worked and bring that into new ideas.

8. let people watch you get better. your editing, confidence, storytelling & ideas are supposed to evolve.

9. the more of YOU you let into your content, the harder you are to copy.

10. you do not need more confidence. you need more evidence that you can trust yourself and you build that by posting before you feel ready, trying again when something flops & continuing when nobody is clapping yet.

6 years later and I’m still learning, testing & changing things all the time. the biggest difference is I don’t need to have it all figured out before I move anymore 🤍

Your makeup might be EXPIRED… and you don’t even know it. 👀💄

Here’s the easiest way to check:

Look for the little open jar symbol on the back or bottom of your product. You’ll usually see something like 6M, 12M or 24M inside it.

That’s the PAO — Period After Opening — and it tells you how many months the product is intended to be used after you first open it.

But the date isn’t the only clue. 👇🏼

If your makeup has:
✨ Changed smell
✨ Changed colour
✨ Separated or changed texture
✨ Dried out
✨ Started applying differently than it used to

…it might be time to say goodbye. 🗑️

And pay EXTRA attention to products that go near your eyes - especially mascara and eyeliner. 👀

Pro tip: When you open a new product, write the month + year somewhere on the packaging so you never have to guess.

Now go check your makeup bag… how many expired products are hiding in there? 😂💄
