September 16, 2022, marked the arrival of one of modern death metal's most crushing debuts when Fargo, North Dakota's Phobophilic unleashed Enveloping Absurdity via Prosthetic Records. Celebrating its 4th anniversary today, this record is a masterclass in slimy, philosophical, and cavernously heavy death metal. 🤘💀🔥

Spinning the rare Black and Red Swirl Effect variant, limited to just 300 copies worldwide.

As artists, we should all be brave enough to write impossible guitar solos over 2 step riffs.

Domination is a divisive MA album, but I love risky song writing and a band doin whatever the fuck they want.

Endless thank yous to the musicians who trusted the vision on this. @taylorxyoung sounds like Dave Vincent turning into a werewolf on this thing and forged a truly badass mix, @tboogz.photo literally brought the thunder, @milesbazzo_ and @kylethomas666 understood the “impossible guitar solo” assignment, and it maybe doesn’t get better than watching @davebland of @fullofhell play drums.

My review of Day Three of Fire in the Mountains 2026 is now live at New Noise Magazine. From @phobophilic_ opening the day to the extraordinary return of @subrosaslc and @abbath_official , Ice Dale, and Armagedda resurrecting Between Two Worlds for its first full live performance in two decades, the festival’s final day delivered one historic moment after another. It was a fitting conclusion to three days in Montana that repeatedly blurred the line between a metal festival and something far more communal, strange, and unforgettable. Read the full review now at New Noise (link in bio).

PHOBOPHILIC
LIVE AT FIRE IN THE MOUNTAINS 2026 on the sovereign
lands of the BLACKFEET NATION in northwestern Montana

@phobophilic_ brought their cavernous, disorienting death metal to day three of @fireinthemountains and delivered one of the festival’s most punishing sets. I’ve been a huge fan since I first heard Enveloping Absurdity back in 2022, so seeing these songs unleashed in the mountains felt especially satisfying. Their music sounded even more immense in that setting: dense, hostile, and strangely hypnotic. A truly memorable performance from one of the strongest death metal bands of the past few years.

Had a great time at Backbone of the world over the weekend. Seeing my relatives on stage and in the pit was really special. Thanks to all the bands who played and the people who spoke. Until next year!
