Last night I was having so much fun, I completely forgot to take photos!

@ptfry and I went to the @oddfellowsstudios x @phobospictures VIFF party, and what a night!

Incredible space, great music, and so many of Vancouver’s movers and shakers in independent film all in one room.

I spent the night having genuinely great conversations and reconnecting with so many of the people I’ve had the privilege of working with in Vancouver over the last 15 years.

It was especially cool hearing from people who are excited to see how the skills of a first AD translate into politics. There are a lot of parallels: managing moving pieces, solving problems in real time, bringing people together and getting things done.

But it wasn’t all shop talk... we danced the night away, too 😏

And the best part (besides the @shamelessbuns food truck) was the @_bartartare team.

The bartenders were fantastic, and I had a great chat with the owner. Their warmth and genuine customer service made an already spectacular evening even better.

“I’ve descended into KV45. The orientation continues to be canted approximately ninety degrees. There is a door, but it appears to be locked. Looking down into the hallway below, I can see the wall continue to slope down further, but it’s too dark to see clearly how far it goes. I’ll need more rope if I want to repel deeper. Hang on, there is a green light…” —- #backrooms #async #kaneparsons #liminal #liminalspaces

“I like it in here. For the first time in a while, I feel like I’m right where I’m supposed to be.”

I’m still obsessed with the Backrooms movie, so I wanted to share some photos I’ve taken that were inspired by/reminded me of Backrooms.

“Backrooms” is a well-executed, tense, mysterious film. The score, the cinematography, the set design, the make-up — all of it outstanding. The ending wasn’t it for me, but I loved the rest of the film!

The Pirate Mascot 🏴‍☠️🛋️
1.5oz White Rum
0.75oz Coconut Syrup
0.5oz Velvet Falernum

Add ingredients & ice to shaker tin and shake well. Double strain over a big cube. Garnish with edible flowers (or no garnish at all, to keep it mysterious). Cheers! 🥂

I watched the film "Backrooms" this morning. I really enjoyed it! Backrooms is a incredibly bold, ominous, and unsettling horror with a compelling premise and a twisted imagination that keeps you on the edge of your seat.

The great script by Will Soodik and director Kane Parsons tells a thoughtful story with some wild thrills and non-stop tension and suspense. It's a story of mental health, the unknown, and survival unlike anything you have previously seen. I do think there is some inspiration from the found-footage genre, but it feels so fresh.

Chiwetel Eijofor & Renate Reinsve star in phenomenal nuanced performances. There are also some superb performances from Lukita Maxwell, Finn Bennett, Mark Duplass, Avan Jogia, Robert Bobroczkyi, and Krista Kosonen.

The cinematography is absolutely brilliant by Jeremy Cox, and it is accompanied by a cool creepy score by Edo Van Breeman & Parsons. It's masterfully edited by Greg Ng, and it has some excellent costume design(Mica Kayde), set decoration(Trevor Johnston), art direction(Alan Derksen), and production design(Danny Vermette). Kane Parsons did a phenomenal job directing this original, bleak, and riveting horror film that I would highly recommend.
