Chicago knows how to make a beef sandwich. Phodega gives us another one worth arguing about. 🥖🍜

The Viet Dip belongs on your Chicago sandwich list: thinly sliced ribeye, homemade aioli, cilantro, onion, and jalapeños, with pho jus for dunking. That broth-soaked bite is the reason I’ve been coming back since their original Ashland location.

My other standing order? Fried chicken rice. Crisp skin, juicy chicken, and savory rice that earns just as much attention as the meat. Mix the sweet soy with the ginger-garlic chili sauce, dip your chicken, then follow with a spoonful of rice. Trust me on that combination.

Now on Division Street in Wicker Park, this Asian-American noodle and snack shop captures something I love about eating in Chicago: the flavors we grew up with finding their way onto the same menu. Pho, chicken rice, pizza puffs, shelves of Asian snacks, and a hip-hop soundtrack. It feels familiar before you even sit down.
