If you would have told me last weekend (4/24-4/26), that Delaney would be competing at the Mid South Conference meet yesterday and today, I would have been skeptical. You see, on that Friday, Delaney rolled her ankle while at a track meet in Louisville and she couldn't put any weight on it whatsoever. After a trip to the ER for imaging, she was released with her ankle wrapped up and on crutches.

But God...

You see, on Saturday (4/25), Delaney sent a text to Matt and I and said,

"I just want to inform you all, that I have this feeling that God is still not done with my track season yet. In whatever capacity that looks like, I just have this weird feeling that I'm going to be throwing hammer one more time. And I know my God, and I know that He doesn't fail me. He never has and He never will, whatever His will is will be done. But I seriously have this feeling that I'll be throwing at least one more time."

She got back to campus on Saturday evening and had an appointment with her athletic trainer on Sunday. On Sunday, Delaney informed us that her trainer felt like she could get her back to throw for this meet in both hammer and discus.

On Wednesday, Delaney was still using a crutch until mid-day to get across campus. She texted around noon to say she was off the crutch.

On Thursday, her trainer did dry needling on Delaney's ankle. If you didn't know, Delaney has a VERY STRONG aversion to needles. But she pushed through the session and said it helped.

Yesterday we were able to watch Delaney throw hammer and take 3rd place in the conference.

Today, we watched Delaney compete in discus. Her ankle was feeling pretty sore and she was only doing half turns instead of a full rotation. She fouled her first 2 marks and after her 3rd throw, she bumped from last to 4th. She gave it all she had and finished the last 2 throw of the Finals with a full rotation. She ultimately got bumped to 5th, but she did put up a better number in Finals than she did in prelims, on a bum ankle.

To say I'm proud would be an understatement. Yes, I'm proud of her accomplishments, but I'm more proud of how she lives out her faith every day and gives God all the glory through it all.

TRACK AND FIELD

12 years ago I decided I wanted to join the track team and be a skinny runner. Little did I know that I would end up being the man I am now.

Throwing was my first love, it was my escape, my heartache, and every other emotion in between. From not even knowing what a hammer is, to holding several records, everyday throwing was somehow in my thoughts.

To UC, thank you for the best collegiate years anyone could ask for. Though they were hard, being my own coach (for the most part, thanks to all who have developed me), fighting through injuries, being sidelined from injuries, etc. they were the best.

This is not a goodbye to the sport that has my heart, but a see you later. Thank you all for the thoughts and prayers, I’ll be back better than ever🤟🏼
