National Portrait Gallery - Edinburgh 📸

I am the first ever person with a disability to have photographs in the National Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh! The first photograph is a girl named Iona who I danced with and I asked her if I could photograph her, she is holding a powerful pose while in a beautiful blue dress with the yellow background contrasting making her stand out. I am so pleased to see some of my photographs on display and for people to realise that people with disabilities deserve to be seen and deserve to be in the spotlight! The national portrait gallery has never thought about doing this and I feel this is huge for raising awareness as well as helping to create change and acceptance, love and togetherness.
I also was able to collaborate with other photographer called Flannery O’kafka who does documentary photography and creates portraits of people.

The photograph of me is part of the series Same Dance, Different Song. As part of a wider project exploring the make-up of modern Scotland, Flannery O’kafka a disabled artist was commissioned to take some new portraits of Indepen-dance, an inclusive dance company based in Glasgow. With support from Art Fund, Flannery spent months getting to know the dancers, hearing their stories and dancing with them to authentically capture and celebrate who they are in their portraits. Dylan which is me was asked to collaborate with flannery and take photos of the dancers too.
