Brandon Herbold (@brandon_herbold) :

Rotterdam native Brandon Herbold received a promotion to the Single-A Columbia Fireflies of the Kansas City Royals organization. Herbold previously had some limited experience in the Hoofdklasse with his hometown Neptunus in 2021 and 2022.

Herbold signed with the Royals in early 2023 after good U-18 showings in 2022. He scuffled for two years as a starter in the Arizona Complex League before being moved to the bullpen. In 2025, Herbold increased his average fastball velocity by 2 mph and posted a 2.63 ERA with 21 K’s in 13.2 IP for the ACL Royals.

He was then sent to the Brisbane Bandits of the Australian Baseball League for the 2025-2026 season where, despite an ugly ERA, he had an electric 15.3 K/9. Herbold leans heavily on a fastball that tops out at around 91 mph while mixing in a breaking ball and an offspeed offering. Through what seems to be a combination of deception and extension, his fastball plays up and generates ugly whiffs. Herbold’s future success depends on him continuing to add velo as he grows into his 6’6” frame, limiting the walks, and refining his secondary offerings.

Tyriq Kemp (@tyriqkemp22):

Fellow Royals prospect and Rotterdammer Tyriq Kemp was promoted to the High-A Quad City River Bandits to start the year. The younger brother of Dutch baseball legend Dwayne Kemp played in the Hoofdklasse from 2019 to 2025 with the Neptunus and Twins.

Tyriq was taken in the sixth round of the 2025 draft by the Royals after breaking out in his senior year at Baylor University. Playing shortstop at Baylor, he smacked 7 homers and 14 doubles in 242 plate appearances while walking more than he struck out!

Kemp got a cup of coffee at Single-A Columbia after he was drafted in 2025, but saw much of his power sapped by the transition from metal to wood bats. The Royals clearly like him, however, since they are sending him to High-A to start the 2026 season.

His future success hinges on getting back to some of the power he showed at Baylor while continuing to take his walks and playing good up the middle defense.
