POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

It’s Tuesday, I feel fancy for my own personal enjoyment. Got this new seasonal Vampire Kiss Raspberry Cake coffee from Aldi. I needed an era appropriate coffee cup set. Can we have a moment for my cup and saucer combo by Limoges? I love art nouveau here’s a little history lesson for my Gilded Age era set. This antique teacup and saucer set features the highly collectible “Easter Lily” pattern (often cataloged by collectors broadly as a variant of the Pond Lily or Waterlilies and Encrusted Gold series), hand-painted by the renowned Pickard China studio of Chicago.
As established by the backstamps on the bottom, the set is composed of:
• The Porcelain Blanks: Imported fine porcelain blanks manufactured in Limoges, France, by the firm Mavaleix, Mandavy, and Balleroy (dating between 1908 and 1914).
• The Decoration: Expertly hand-painted and embellished with 24-karat gold detailing at the Wilder A. Pickard Studios in Illinois.
Design Elements:

• The Motif: Features pristine white Easter lilies with prominent yellow anthers, surrounded by delicate green foliage.
• The Borders: Decorated with a stylized, flowing Art Nouveau green scrollwork border inset against an amber-gold lustre band.
• The Gilt Work: Finished with heavy, brilliant gold paste along the rims, inner bandings, and the solid-gold handle. Because Pickard operated as a premium decorating studio employing master European and American artisans, each of these early 20th-century pieces was painted entirely by hand, giving every surviving set its own unique, slightly varied artistic personality. My therapist calls it an obsession. I prefer the term “tablescape-aholic.” Six years of enabling my own plate-hoarding habits. Please don’t ask to see my storage cabinets 😂🍽️💐🥰

Pickard China | begin again | a beautiful gift |

Today, I’m proud to share that I’ve acquired Pickard China, the last remaining fine china manufacturer in the United States, based right here in Antioch, Illinois.

@pickardchina’s 133-year history as a porcelain manufacturer, notably making for government institutions, embassies, heads of state, and some of the most interesting clients in the country, is one of the most exciting and fulfilling projects in my practice to date.

In this moment when it feels reasonable to embrace a post-studio ethos, I am always consciously trying to create the right preconditions whereby art might happen alongside other things, including industry and manufacturing.

The aging factory as an extension of the artist studio, industrial manufacturing facility that can create the conditions for material innovation and experimentation, and growing a skilled labor force around the ceramic trades is something I’m deeply interested in exploring.

I’m thankful to the Pickard family for stewarding this craft and enterprise over four generations, and to the artisans and staff at Pickard for continuing to deliver the highest level of craftsmanship.

Thank you to NPR, Chloe Veltman, and Akilah Townsend for helping us tell this story. And thank you, Andy and Mary Ellen, for trusting me with your family’s legacy. Link in bio.

Blue & White is the outfit change fall needed… I said what I said 🤭🩵🍂🤍

I love traditional fall colors, but one of my life missions is bringing blue into every season. I like to color outside the lines… preferably in all shades of blue 🥰
