On August 6th, Join SARA, AIA Brooklyn, and the Greater Design Community In Support of Judy “Chie” Hasegawa.
Link in bio.

Judy “Chie” Hasegawa, AFF. SARA, has long been one of the people who helps bring our #architecture and #design community together. Through her work with Society of American Registered Architects, SARA NY, AIA Brooklyn, and the broader AEC community, Judy has created space for connection, mentorship, student support, fundraising, and professional community. She has hosted events, organized gatherings, welcomed
students and emerging professionals, led walking tours, attended programs across New York City, and continually gone above and beyond to support the people around her.

Now Judy is facing a serious heart-health journey and needs the support of the community she has so often supported.

Judy was rushed to Mount Sinai after a medical emergency and has been in the hospital receiving care. While she is thankfully no longer on life support, her recovery remains significant, and those close to her are hopeful that she will continue to improve and avoid the need for a heart transplant.

SARA’s mission is Architect Helping Architect. But that mission does not stop at architects alone. It is about architects helping the community, strengthening the relationships that sustain our profession, and showing up for the people who have shown up for us.

Judy is a leader in that community. She is a national affiliate board member of SARA, a fixture within AIA Brooklyn, and someone who has helped create the spaces where our members, students, sponsors, and friends come together. It is now time for our industry to support one of our own and give back.

Please join us on August 6 at the Brickworks showroom in New York City from 6-8pm for a fundraising event in support of Judy “Chie” Hasegawa.

Food and drinks will be provided, and raffle prizes will be available. More than anything, this will be an opportunity to gather as a community, celebrate Judy, and help support her recovery.

We look forward to celebrating Judy with you. You can register for the August 6th

Congratulations to @enneadarchitects for receiving a @saranycouncil Special Award for their project The Delacorte Theater in Central Park.

The Delacorte Theatre is home to The Public Theater’s iconic "Shakespeare in the Park." After 62 years of bringing Shakespeare to New York City, Ennead’s design to revitalize the 1,872-seat theater brings a previously unseen level of accessibility, resilience, and sense of place to this much-loved cultural space.

Nestled among the trees, the theater’s setting informs the design. The thoughtful sense of procession begins from the moment the theater becomes visible and continues to the moment you arrive at your seat. The stage opens up a previously unseen view of Belvedere Castle, cultivating a sense of discovery and awe that sets the tone for the performance.

The exterior is made of reclaimed redwood from decommissioned water towers sourced from all five boroughs. The textured, vertical wood façade is canted slightly outward to create a sense of movement, playing with light and shadow to evoke the organic beauty of the surroundings. The rugged texture of the exterior wall is juxtaposed with the smooth, dynamic geometry of the new covered canopy, sweeping across the entryway to cultivate an entry experience that balances subtlety and grandeur. The facade grounds the structure in its natural landscape and symbolically ties it to the broader urban context and history of the city.

Ennead has a long-standing partnership with The Public. Centered around a long-term master plan, Ennead has been designing and executing multi-phased improvements to The Public’s flagship location on Lafayette Street, creating a new rehearsal hall annex and now completing the revitalization of the Delacorte.

Congratulations to @thomasphiferandpartners for receiving a @saranycouncil Special Award for their project The Wagner Park Pavilion, for the South Battery City Resiliency Project.

The South Battery Park City Resiliency Project, along with other Lower Manhattan Resiliency Projects, is designed to protect one of New York City’s most densely built environments against future storms and sea level rise. The flood risk reduction projects and interior drainage improvements focused on Battery Park City provide protection for both this neighborhood and adjacent areas. Engineered to withstand a 100-year storm in 2050 and anticipated sea level rise, the project delivers world-class public spaces that are built to last.
The project provides a comprehensive flood risk reduction alignment in a way that continues to provide public access to the waterfront while using as many static structures as possible to reduce risk of operational complexity or failure. The South Battery Park City site includes four different project areas which integrate the flood risk reduction alignment according to their specific challenges and constraints: Museum of Jewish Heritage, Wagner Park, Pier A plaza, and The Battery.
