😎 WEEK 1: JULY 6-10! MELT Register for, ‘Sequencing’ with Tere O’Connor @picpicter !! PLAN YOUR NYC SUMMER! Learn more and register on our website: https://movementresearch.org/melt ☀️Week 1: Jul 6-10 3:30-6pm | Sequencing | Tere O’Connor Location: MR Studios, 150 First Avenue About this workshop: In an effort to expand notions of choreographic craft, we will concentrate on the ways in which time operates as a limitless contributor to our work. The ability to manipulate time is central for one to “write” with dance. We will consider the use of sequence and velocity in choreographic construction and search for strategies outside of those borrowed from music. Each participant will examine their own internal, temporal world. We will also identify external structures that dominate us and begin to wrestle in the interface between the two. Looking deeply at sequencing, we can begin to shape our work with great specificity, and wrest it from certain canonic pressures that still hover over even the most experimental work. ☀️About the artist: Tere O’Connor is a Center for Advanced Studies Professor in Dance at the University of Illinois and the Artistic Director of Tere O’Connor Dance in NYC. He has created over 45 works for his company, touring them extensively in the United States, Europe, Canada and South America. He has created many commissioned works for other companies; among these are works for the Lyon Opera Ballet and a solo for Mikhail Baryshnikov. He received a 2013 Doris Duke Performing Artist Award… [ID: A photo of dancers on stage with three dancers facing front in what is classically known as a second position and three dancers leaning backwards perpendicular to them.
