Is Chongqing worth the hype? 🇨🇳 Our honest answer: no.

We went to Chongqing, China for one reason: the famous train that runs through a building. 🚆🏙️

We’d seen the videos everywhere — the insane scale of the city, skyscrapers disappearing into the mountains, and streets and squares seemingly floating on the 20th floor.

And honestly? The reality didn’t live up to the hype.

The train-through-the-building experience wasn’t nearly as impressive as we expected. Getting to the viewpoint wasn’t particularly straightforward, and once you arrive… prepare for a LOT of people trying to get the exact same photo. 🫠

That said, Chongqing itself is definitely worth experiencing if you love street photography, huge cities, dramatic architecture and mountain views. The city is unlike almost anywhere else we’ve been.

Our verdict? 👇

Would we visit Chongqing specifically for the famous train? No.

Would we stay in Chongqing as part of a wider China trip? Absolutely.

Hotels can be surprisingly affordable, and waking up to those insane city-and-mountain views from your window is pretty special.

💡 Travel tip: If you're travelling by train, don't rely on the station for your caffeine fix… apparently coffee shops were not invited. ☕🫠

And if you're combining Chongqing with Zhangjiajie, it makes much more sense as part of a bigger China itinerary rather than visiting solely for the viral attractions.

Have you been to Chongqing? Was it worth the hype for you?

🏙️✨ Proud to be a New Yorker! There's something magical about this city—the energy, the hustle, and the heart that defines us. 🗽❤️ @newyorkcity.explore @newyork.explore__
The last time the Knicks brought home an NBA championship was in 1973. But this year, 2026, could be the year we bring that glory back! 🏀💪
Let’s rally together as we chase our dreams! Here’s to the blue and orange rise, because every game is a step closer to a championship for NYC! Let’s go, Knicks! 🔥💙🧡 #KnicksNation #NewYorkProud #ChampionshipBound @sports_baddie_minnie @pictureperfectluis @nyknicks @knicks_everything
