⛳ 64 people. 16 foursomes. The 4th annual IESNYC Golf Outing.

North Hempstead Country Club was the place to be as our NYC lighting and design community came together for 18 holes of friendly competition, connection, and a chance to connect away from the office.

Lighting designers, architects, developers, electrical engineers, manufacturers, and manufacturer representatives took to the course to compete for team score, longest drive, and closest to the pin. After a day of golf, everyone came together for a BBQ lunch, contest prizes, and the 50/50 raffle.

Beyond the competition, the outing is a great reminder of the value of bringing our industry together—and it helps support IESNYC’s programming throughout the year.

Thank you to our event and hole sponsors and everyone who joined us. We’re already looking forward to the next one!

Head to the link in our bio for pictures and more.

A central lightwell brings daylight through 3 levels of the Bethesda Residence.

We studied the movement of the sun across the seasons to calibrate the angles of the light well and the minimum size of the skylight-- the goal was to mitigate solar heat gain while maximizing the amount of diffuse light that could flow down through the home.

The Bethesda Residence has received an AIA Maryland Design Award! @aia.maryland @aianational

Thank you to our wonderful clients and dedicated team.

Glass-fiber reinforced cement (GFRC) panels were selected to form a crisp, sculptural facade that captures texture and shifting light throughout the day. While cast-in-place concrete was initially considered, fiber cement paired with a light-gauge and structural steel frame allowed for flexibility in construction detailing while retaining solidity, precision, and sculptural refinement. Designed for a 100-year lifespan, the low-VOC, nontoxic panels resist fire, pests, and extreme weather. Their use offers a durable alternative in a region where wood cladding is vulnerable to subterranean termites and brick can suffer moisture-related spalling, mortar deterioration, and mold growth. High-performance windows are used throughout. We also provided provisions for a future ADA-accessible elevator so the owners can age in place.

Transitions between rooms can be captivating in unexpected ways. Here, the views through to the landscape frame the passage into a bedroom… a way to create calm and warmth simultaneously with light, views and materials.

Highlighting a detail where form, materials, and sustainability merge…
The carport provides a protected place to enter the home. Corrugated aluminum and Radiata Pine provide durability and subtle textural movement with light.
The sloped roof extends out, culminating in a wide scupper that directs storm water to a gravel bed and drywell below. Water dissipates from the drywell to nearby rain gardens that serve as habitats for wildlife and pollinators.
Holistic design, captured in a moment at the Chatham Residence…

We are thrilled that the BBC @bbc has featured the Chatham Residence as one of the world's best new buildings immersed in nature!

We will be presenting the project at the World Architecture Festival @worldarchfest in November.

Shaping a view to the landscape from the inside, while articulating the form and persona of a building from the outside…

… the reciprocity between indoor and outdoor experiences is essential to our design philosophy.

Thank you to @araninc — the builder— for executing this design flawlessly.

As you enter the Bethesda Residence, three layers of experience unfold… the the stair volume, highlighted by a 3-story light well; the open living and dining spaces on the main floor; and the outdoor connection to the terrace, pool and garden.

A three story lightwell draws light deep into this home. We did extensive studies to determine how a small skylight at the top could bounce sunlight down through multiple levels while minimizing solar heat gain.

A small introduction of light can make a huge impact in a space.

In this 'suburban-urban' hybrid neighborhood within easy walking distance to downtown Bethesda, we carved out soothing moments of respite in the garden and on the rooftop.
