The world doesn’t need more women trying to have it all. It needs to rethink what women are capable of making.

I was invited to be interviewed by the Financial Times. And Daisy wasn’t just another journalist arriving with a list of prepared questions.
She created a space where I felt safe enough to untangle my own thoughts gently. I felt truly listened to. And that gave me the courage to open up in ways I hadn’t expected. She even shared a little of her own motherhood journey with me, making the conversation feel beautifully human. It felt like a discovery, not a sequence of rehearsed answers.

Every time Daisy asked a new question, I knew she wasn’t simply ticking off a list. She listened carefully, picked up on something unexpected, and followed that thread. That’s where the magic happened. I found myself revealing something real, raw and honest about myself.

Thank you, Daisy, for your genuine curiosity. I came away feeling I’d reached somewhere I couldn’t have reached alone. And after thinking out loud with you, I skipped back to my studio, full of energy and ideas.

That’s the power of a really good conversation. It doesn’t just capture your thoughts. It creates new ones.

Turns out, making a life and making art were never two different things.

I hope this conversation offers a little more insight into how motherhood can supercharge a designer’s creative voice — not just as a collection of entertaining sound bites, but as a profound, messy, life-changing force that reshapes how we see the world and what we make of it.

Have a beautiful Monday, everyone.

It appears as a splash of color, but the closer you get, the more details emerge. Hundreds of glass flowers create a cloud of intermittent, iridescent reflections in the dance of light, while trunks and branches accommodate functional elements. A centerpiece that is a work of art.

Last week I went to PAD London in Berkeley Square, and these are the ten galleries I keep coming back to in my head. Walking from one booth to the next, I realised how much there still is for me to discover, and honestly, that’s the most exciting part. I left full of inspiration, with a list of names I want to remember for future projects and a real hunger to dive deeper into this world. Swipe through and let me know which one you’d walk into first.

Last week, of all the inspired design at PAD London and Decorex, what caught my eye were moments of intricate craft, and the way materials, colour and texture can carry a space or mood. Having arrived slightly early for PAD, I also took in the @phillipsauction preview, where I was drawn to works that evoked a strong sense of place, space, and emotion.

1. PAD: This pairing of masterful furniture by @hervevanderstraetengalerie caught my eye for its contrasting forms, tied together by a palette of pink, green and brown. The table’s chameleon lacquer shifts between pink and green as you walk around it, and the lamps combine restored antique Chinese panels, crystals and gold leaf. The effect is exuberance, distilled.

2. Phillips: Between Trees (detail) by @bensledsens transported me to a twilight as pregnant with calm as the possibility of adventure, its composition evoking medieval tapestries.

3. Decorex: The delicate plaster casts of @racheldein bring nature indoors. Cast from real flowers and foliage, composed naturalistically and pressed into clay, they carry neoclassical white relief into the modern day.

4. Phillips: Blue departure (cropped) by Megan Rooney feels like both staring at the reflection of a deep natural pool and swimming in it.

5. PAD: Each of these intricate porcelain objets by @andreanassar_ceramics , shown by @pikd.pieces , took 100 hours to make, keeping springtime in bloom all year round.

6. Decorex: Although inspired by his love for the plant and fungi kingdoms, @jarradbelton ’s pieces seem charmingly anthropomorphic to me. The inlaid panels come to life through chevron-matched veneers whose natural figure does not quite mirror itself across the spine.

7. Phillips: Mark Tobey’s Footballers (detail) reminds me of the physicality of Michelangelo’s studies, and up close portrays a sweaty kineticism in which the players are at once rivals and part of the same body.

8. Decorex: For a weaver called Pain, @larapaintextiles makes remarkably comforting textiles, full of warmth and loft. These throws were a delight to touch and hold.

I’ve simplified two backgrounds so each piece can stand on its own; the works are untouched.

MAD for PAD
I think this is my favourite of the fairs, of which there are many this week.
Really exciting work both new and mid-century. Excellent examples of exemplary design and contemporary craft, this work speaks to me.

✨PAD LONDON — WHEN DESIGN REFUSES TO BE ORDINARY

One of the things I enjoy most about PAD London is how easily the boundaries between art, design and craftsmanship begin to disappear.

My personal highlight this year was the extraordinary ceramic work of Andrea Nassar, presented by Beirut-based @pikd.pieces. Organic, intricate, almost otherworldly. The kind of objects that make you move closer because you genuinely want to understand how they were made.

And then there was the pink balloon sofa. Apparently made from actual balloons? I still have questions! 🎈

Between sculptural furniture, unexpected materials, beautiful jewellery and objects that seem to belong somewhere between a gallery and a living room, PAD reminds us that functional design doesn’t necessarily have to behave itself.

Sometimes the most interesting objects are the ones that make us look twice.

May Gardens: collectible mirrors, each one unique. They capture the breath of open spaces, the freshness of wildflowers, and the richness of the biodiversity within them—evoking a sense of naturalness that only the transparent lightness of glass can convey.

I’d forgotten how to play.

I could organise four children (well kind of), run a studio, make things happen. But sit on the floor and become a ninja because a 5-year-old said so? Honestly. Terrible.

Then motherhood dragged me back in.

Issey and Haku turns boxes into houses, sticks into swords, stones into creatures. And suddenly I started seeing JŌMON differently.

Those ancient vessels are strange, tactile, exaggerated—objects that feel as though someone was allowed to experiment, invent, imagine.

That spirit is where this collection begins.

I’ve made the forms louder, brighter, more playful. The dots, colour and odd combinations are less decoration than permission: to play, to experiment, to make something unexpected.

JŌMON reminds me that making begins with imagination.

And imagination begins with play.

Play isn’t the opposite of serious work. It’s where the serious work starts.

See you in PAD London
