The workshops are obviously a huge part of Cabaret Camp, but it’s never really just about learning a new skill. It’s trying something you’ve never done before. Being absolutely shit at something and laughing about it. Realising you’re actually quite good at something you never expected. Learning from and with brilliant performers you might never normally get the chance to work with. No pressure to be perfect. No competing. Just a field full of performers having a go, learning from each other and spending a weekend doing the things we love. 📷@iwilburnart #TheScarletSirens #cabaretcamp #burlesquecamp #performerssummercamp

I've been trying to think about what I wanted to say because thank you doesn't really feel enough. When I first had the idea for Camp, it wasn't because I wanted to create another event. We already have so many brilliant events in our industry. I love them. They've given me friendships, opportunities and some of the best memories of my life. But over the years I realised something. As performers, we're nearly always 'on'. Introducing ourselves by our stage names, networking, talking about acts, bookings, costumes and the next project. I love that because we're all so passionate about what we do. I just wondered what would happen if we created a space where all of that could exist... but where it didn't HAVE to. Where you could still learn from incredible teachers, watch unique shows under the stars and meet amazing people, but the biggest thing you took home wasn't a new routine or booking... it was genuine friendships and some space to just be you, away from all the noise. Looking around this weekend, I kept catching little moments that nobody else probably noticed. People sitting outside chatting for hours. Someone quietly encouraging another person before a class. Camp chairs pulled into circles. New friendships forming without anybody even realising it was happening. That was Camp. Of course the workshops were incredible. The shows were everything I'd hoped they'd be. Watching world-class performers in the middle of a field as the sun disappeared was genuinely indescribable. But for me, the magic was always in everything happening around those moments. The conversations. The laughter. The connections. The feeling that, for one weekend, nobody had to prove anything. You could just be YOU. Thank you for trusting an idea that only existed in my head not that long ago. Thank you for embracing it exactly as I'd hoped, and for reminding me that sometimes the most important thing we can create isn't a show. It's a space where people feel like they belong. If that's how even one person felt this weekend, then every sleepless night, every wobble and every bit of hard work was worth it. From the bottom of my heart... thank you. ❤️

Honoured to be on @bbcbreakfast this morning with the brilliant team at @fitnessgarageharrogate, talking about the long-term benefits of strength training. New research released today shows that 90 - 120 minutes of weight training a week can have a powerful impact on long term health, greatly reducing the risk of an early death. The findings show: 💪19% lower risk of dying from cardiovascular disease. 💪27% lower risk of death from a neurological disease. 💪13% lower risk of premature death from any cause. Strength training is one of the most powerful ways to support your long-term health. #bbcbreakfast #harrogatefitness #harrogatept #midlifestrength #strenghttraining
