👈SWIPE - Sunday morning was overcast, warm, and bit too humid…So obvs @twoeleven_aviation flew barefoot, again, taking us E then SE along the foothills by Highland, never climbing much above 2,500’ AGL (“Less distance to fall”, he claims). We goofed around for a while in the foothills, and later returned to a still very quiet @cableairport, just in time for the sun to finally burn off the high cloud layer. T’was a very peaceful flight, but missed out on the sunshine.

#happymothersday to my amazing Mom! She has endured all of my stress-inducing hobbies, she even rode on the back of my sport bike, and will always be my most memorable co-pilot…In my 7-decades old airplane! #TLDR: 5 years ago I purchased a plane, this low-hour vintage 1956 Cessna 172 tailwheel conversion (@oneseventytoo), what a gem! My very first annual took many weeks and several thousands of dollars, but addressed deferred maintenance items like cracked mufflers, a bad fuel selector valve, and the mags both needed servicing, among many other little things. Also, I wanted to do things like add the bigger 8.50’s, LED lighting, add ADSB, a new ASI, and some other minor upgrades. Since then, my annual inspections have been a breeze, taking usually only one day and costing less than $1,000 each year…Until this year…”Oh, airplanes” (recent and appropriate quote from @flyingfiddler 😎👍). Right out of annual while taxiing to run up for my RTS flight, I noticed the tachometer had stopped tachometering…That grounded me and I was back on the phone with the A&P, and a replacement tachometer was ordered. Turns out they aren’t only $79.99 like the ones at O’Reilly Auto Parts, more like 10X that plus labor, and the removed unit had the date stamp of only “2019”🤦🏻‍♂️. I took this 2 week delay to have @uavionixaviation address one of my two AV-30C’s, that was losing its lower L hand part of the screen, flickering into large white areas. Long story longer, yesterday I was able to finally complete my post-annual Return to Service flight, and the plane flew great, much lighter now due to my empty wallet. Yesterday was one of those days in the air where it all seems worth it, a beautiful Blue Bird day in So Cal. I spent about 90 minutes cruising around, making sure everything was singing along, and it was, Oh, HAPPINESS! That feeling of absolute airborne euphoria lasted all the way up until I realized that if I didn’t land soon I’d miss a free BBQ, and those always taste so much sweeter right after a big-dig annual!💰 🤣👍

Enjoying a deserted evening sky, and last flight of 2024! The wind was dead calm and we pulled off a greaser, stall horn sounding just after touchdown. Happy New Year, see you in 2025!! 👍👍
