Welcoming ceramic artist Pınar Baklan (@pinarbaklan) to REVELATIONS CHINA 2026.

Baklan’s artistic research navigates the boundaries between material behavior and emotional control, using clay, stoneware, and porcelain as mediums for self-communication and psychological dialogue. Transitioning from academic research to free-form studio practice, her work investigates how raw earth shapes human consciousness just as the maker shapes the material.

Pınar Baklan | İDA Sergi 2026

Seramik sanatçısı Pınar Baklan, Hacettepe Üniversitesi Güzel Sanatlar Fakültesi’nde lisans, yüksek lisans ve Sanatta Yeterlik eğitimini tamamladı. Türkiye’de ve yurt dışında birçok sergi, sempozyum ve sanatçı programında yer alan Baklan, uluslararası ödüllere layık görüldü; eserleri Uzak Doğu ve Avrupa’da kamusal alanlarda ve müzelerde kalıcı olarak yer aldı.

Akademik kariyerinin ardından çalışmalarını Marmaris’teki atölyesinde bağımsız sanatçı olarak sürdüren Pınar Baklan, İDA Sergi 2026 için özel olarak hazırladığı eserleriyle bizlerle olacak.

From 26–30 September, Shanghai as a UNESCO Creative City of Design, will host the 5th edition of the World Design Cities Conference (WDCC), a major international event bringing together design cities, creative institutions, designers and industry leaders to explore the role of design in shaping the future of cities and creative industries.

Taoxichuan is a major cultural and creative district in the heart of Jingdezhen, developed by preserving and transforming its ceramic industrial heritage. Spanning approximately 1 km², it combines art, culture, tourism, and urban renewal, attracting millions of visitors and creating a vibrant, open cultural and artistic community.

Heyecanlıyız! 4. Uluslararası MÜZler Sanat Sempozyumu için geri sayım başladı. Her yıl Girne Belediyesi ev sahipliğinde, Girne Arkın Group Fest’26 kapsamında, pek çok kıymetli destekçi sponsorluğunda ve proje sahibi akademisyen sanatçı Nevin Halis yürütücülüğünde gerçekleşen sempozyumun 12-27 Eylül 2026 tarihlerinde yürütülecek olan bu yılki 4. edisyonu için dünyanın farklı ülkelerinden yapılan tüm başvurular değerlendirildi.
Kıbrıslı yerel sanatçılar ve uluslararası sanatçılardan oluşan 25 kişilik sanatçı grubu bu yıl yine Girne kent merkezinde halkın izleyiciliğine ve katılımına açık şekilde eserler üretecek. 14 Eylül Pazartesi gerçekleşecek sempozyum açılış sergisi ve 26 Eylül Cumartesi 18:30’da açılacak sempozyum kapanış sergisi ile dünyanın farklı ülkelerinden pekçok sanatçının eserleri halkla buluşacak. Alternatif pişirim çalıştayları ve dekor çalıştayları düzenlenerek kent halkı ile pek çok sanatsal paylaşımda bulunulacak. İki haftalık sempozyum süresince sanatçıların üretim aşamaları birebir izlenebilecek. Sempozyum süresince üretilen tüm eserler kapanış sergisiyle izleyiciliğiyle buluşacak ve gelecekte açılacak müze koleksiyonu için Girne sanat koleksiyonuna dahil edilecek. 12-27 Eylül 2026 tarihlerinde Girne’de buluşmak üzere!

We’re excited! The countdown has begun for the 4th International MÜZler Art Symposium.
Held each year in collaboration with Kyrenia Municipality, as part of the Kyrenia Arkin Group Fest ’26, with the generous support of many valued sponsors, and under the direction of the project’s founder and academic artist Nevin Halis, this year’s 4th edition will take place from September 12–27, 2026. All applications submitted by artists from different countries around the world have now been reviewed.

This year, a group of 25 local Cypriot and international artists will once again create artworks in the heart of Kyrenia, with the process open to the public to watch and take part in.

The Symposium Opening Exhibition, taking place on Monday, September 14, and the Closing Exhibition, opening at 6:30 PM on Saturday, September 26, will bring together works by artists

“Linger” 30*17*25 cm, jade porcelain, at 1280’C

The handbuilt figure depicts an alienated form, yet its soft, human-like hands suggest emotion and vulnerability.

During firing, the porcelain developed cracks. Instead of hiding them, I used Juci, a ceramic stapling and riveting technique, to connect and hold the broken areas together. The metal becomes part of the figure, turning damage into something visible and meaningful. The cracks are no longer simply imperfections; they become an acceptance and signs of resilience.

A light placed inside the sculpture reveals the natural translucency of the jade porcelain, enhanced by the thinness created through the pinching technique.

Ultimately, the work reflects on fragility, alienation, and the beauty of finding meaning within imperfection.

Last but not least, I would like to thank my beautiful friend @pinarbaklan , who showed us the possibilities of working with thin, hand-built porcelain 🙏. I am also grateful to Torston Toto Jurell and Mu Fang, who helped me using the Jusi technique 😇.

Meet the Creator | 🌟 Pınar Baklan

Based in Marmaris, Türkiye, ceramicist Pınar Baklan spent 12 years teaching ceramics at the university level after earning her PhD in Fine Arts. In 2020, she opened her own studio to focus entirely on her artistic practice.

Specializing in coil building, Pınar relies on the natural plasticity of clay to shape large-scale, intricate ceramic sculptures.

Her masterfully crafted pieces celebrate the balance between authenticity and contemporary design, establishing her as a prominent voice in modern Turkish craftsmanship.

For centuries, artists have traveled to Jingdezhen to learn from one of the world’s greatest ceramic traditions.
This summer, I had the privilege of becoming one of them.
Known as the Porcelain Capital of the world, this remarkable city has been producing ceramics for more than 1,700 years and has shaped the history of porcelain far beyond China’s borders. Since 2014, it has been recognized as a UNESCO Creative City of Crafts & Folk Art, celebrating its living ceramic traditions and creative community.

I had the privilege of attending Pınar Baklan’s porcelain shaping workshop, where I explored new ways of working with porcelain while exchanging ideas with an inspiring group of artists from around the world. It was a reminder that although our artistic languages may differ, our passion for clay connects us all.

Walking through Taoxichuan Art Center, where former industrial kilns have been transformed into vibrant studios, galleries, and creative spaces, I witnessed how centuries-old craftsmanship continues to inspire contemporary artists from every corner of the globe. It is a place where tradition isn’t preserved behind glass—it is lived, questioned, and reinvented every day.

And while I was there, Jingdezhen received another extraordinary recognition: the Jingdezhen Handicraft Porcelain Industry Sites were officially inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2026, acknowledging the city’s unparalleled contribution to the history of porcelain and its influence on global art, technology, and cultural exchange.

As a ceramic artist, experiencing this place wasn’t just a journey—it felt like returning to one of the roots of our shared artistic language.
