Hello, Thank you all for giving us so much love & adapting that small practice from our previous Green Star Story! Today we bring to you our next Green Star, Mr. Nevil Pinto, who is currently a research scholar in the field of Bioscience at ICAR-CIFE, Mumbai. The rapidly changing climate concerned him, but this worry didn't stop him from taking action. In fact, climate dynamics gave him an opportunity to think about clean energy & food and act on it. During the lockdown (April 2020 onwards), he started practicing Solar-based Aquaponics in his hometown Mangalore, Karnataka, wherein the solar pump was already assembled in 2018 to resolve the issues of Solid waste. He sets a moral example of not giving up. Without any facilities during the lockdown period, he used plastic bottles as a base for the aquaponics experiments. One of the challenges faced during that time was the hot summer sun. It really concerned him for the plants in gravel. Meanwhile, he also realized there was not enough basement for roots. To overcome this, he adopted a ‘Natural bamboo-oriented aquaponics system’ with a base made from coconut fiber, gravel, and sand which was used as a theme for growing cowpeas. Adding more to this, Mr. Nevil adopted a plant hanging method for tomato cultivation. Utilizing the lockdown period to its fullest, he also began with RAFT aaquaponi on a trial basis for growing cowpeas. Although the plants were healthier, he didn’t receive any fruits on it. But, this setback didn’t stop him there. Rather it boosted him to research and try using different experimental set-ups! At last, he adds a message for all of us reading this, "The goal of sustainable development is no longer a desire, it's a necessity, and young people can change the world." We at GreenLine second this thought and are taking action, Are you? #aquaponics #bambooaquaponicsystem #bamboo #cowpeas #tomato #lockdownaquaponics #lockdown #naturalfarming #aquaponicsfarming
