Surprise set from @pitfallsatthirdlaw at the geronimostilton show back at the end of June. I’d only seen this band once before at a skate park show that got cut short and my battery died anyway, so it was cool to get another opportunity to snap a few shots of them.

Shot with my standard @lensbabyusa Composer Pro 2 x Edge optics rig. I wanted to do a softer B&W with these because I think too often B&W band photos can fall into a really generic hi-contrast style and I wanted these to feel special.

More shots soon! I am working on wrapping my June pics and moving to July & August. Took me forever around tour and secret projects, but we’re getting there.

Ephemeral is one of my top 5 favorite words in the English language. Phonetically speaking, it just sounds beautiful. Its meaning? Core to human existence, as fleeting moments serve as symbols representing entire eras, complex emotions felt, ideas thought and philosophies believed in. It is the ephemeral that colors the tapestry of a life. The day lasts more than a hundred years, as Soviet Kyrgyz author Chinghiz Aitmatov would put it; a speck of time can contain within it the meaning of a century’s worth of experiences.

Music scenes are certainly ephemeral creatures. When you're growing up, the scene you step into can seem eternal. It's not. People move away. Venues close and new ones open. Some bands get big while others fizzle out and break up, and then many of the bands that got big, your Title Fights and your Modern Baseballs, break up too. The core of what you thought was forever might last a couple of years. And yet, this relatively brief experience will likely be full of meaning for the rest of your life.

If you’re lucky, you may one day get the opportunity to watch your talented, creative, hardworking friends from that moment in time - the ones you hung out with in cramped basements and VFW parking lots - hitting their stride in their best band yet. Even better is that, when these friends come to your city, as @suemyband did on Sunday, they’ll be playing to a room full of young adults forging their own paths forward as they embrace their temporarily eternal worlds.
