From the euthanasia list to living the good life with a forever family we never could have dreamed of. ❤️

Bruiser arrived at Devore Animal Shelter as a stray in heartbreaking condition, unable to walk and needing extensive medical care. He was immediately placed on the euthanasia list and waited…and waited…for someone to save him. But his savior ever came. Then we were asked to help.

On the day he was scheduled to be euthanized, we pulled him to safety. With help from an incredible Devore volunteer/networker @dogs_need_voice, Bruiser was transported directly to @CARES Hospital, where he was diagnosed with a luxated femoral head, and underwent major surgery the very next day.

Giving this sweet boy the second chance he deserved was our honor. ❤️

Sadly, as Bruiser healed, we began seeing concerning resource guarding and reactivity. Whatever he had experienced before coming to us, it was clear his life had not been easy. We weren’t willing to give up on him—we needed to understand him. And knew we needed to get him professional help to modify his behavior before it escalated any further.

To set him up for success, we enrolled him in @valkyriesofvalor_k9s board-and-train program. With Addy’s compassionate, individualized approach, Bruiser learned that he was finally safe and did not need to be protective of things he valued.

The transformation exceeded everything we hoped for.

Then something unexpected happened: Addy and her partner fell completely in love with him. ❤️

They asked if they could adopt Bruiser. We could not have wished for a more incredible forever family. They love all of him—his special needs, quirks, history and wonderfully sweet soul. He has even grown fond of their newborn and loves giving her tiny toes kisses. 🥹❤️

The dog who once waited on a euthanasia list is now HOME—with people who understand him, adore him and are committed to him for life.

This is why we rescue.

Meet Jeanie June, another brave, little, Skid Row survivor. This angel spent the first 11 months of her life fending for herself amongst a homeless encampment along Skid Row. Though we can only imagine what she went through living on the streets, we can promise her that those days are long over. She is now safe with Pugs and Kisses Animal Rescue and looking for a safe, loving and responsible forever home with a family that will love her and cherish her. She is roughly 11 months old, just got spayed last week, up to date on all vaccines, and has a clean bill of health. She is the sweetest little Velcro pug you will ever meet. She loves playing with other small dogs and being near her human at all times. She would do best in a home with at least one other small, playful dog and with a person who has time to shower her with the love and attention she deserves. We did (what most said would be) the impossible!
The Skid Row Trio has been adopted, TOGETHER
We couldn’t be happier that these adorable boys who suffered life on Skid Row together will now get to enjoy an incredible life filled with love, safety, compassion, and commitment TOGETHER with one of the best humans we have ever had the honor of meeting.
We had a lot of really wonderiul people wanting to adopt these boys individually And while we know they would have provided them with great homes, our pipe dream was to keep them together if possible, For those oi you who may be disappointed, please know we always put the best interest of our dogs first. Please also know that we have other really great pugs that need forever homes.
One such pug is also a Skid Row survivor. She just joined the Pugs and Kisses Family and will be making her public debut today.

The first time I saw Sam’s picture, I did a double take. And, then another. And, another. It took me a minute to process what I was actually looking at.

With his perfectly adorable face inset on what appeared to be an overtly exaggerated and distorted large head a top a very small and extremely emaciated body, Sam looked like a caricature sketched by an artist. Sadly, my eyes were deceiving me.

This was not an artist’s sketch drawn to create a humorous or satirical visual. This was reality. This was Sam, a two year old pitbull terrier in i heartbreakingly horrific condition- emaciated
Beyond Bull with a foul smelling and necrotic tail from an untreated infection.

Due to the circumstances surrounding Sam’s impoundment, we had to wait a few days before he could exit the Long Beach animal care center. The second he was legally allowed to leave, we received a phone call and sent one of our amazing team members lizzie to pick him up and take directly to one of our clinics where he will remain hospitalized and receive the love and medical treatment he so desperately needs and deserves.

Though Sam’s condition is horrifying. his spirits are high. Despite everything this boy has endured, he is sweet, loving, docile and trusting. THere is something so humbling about his sweet and trusting nature. Yet at the same time, something so disturbing . Humans truly do not deserve dogs.

🎀Gorgeous pocket pittie Pinky’s life is on the line—needs a hero to adopt or rescue her by EOD THIS Sun 2/22 or she will be euthanized at North Central Los Angeles Shelter. Loves people and is a playgroup rockstar!

PLEASE help us save this absolutely adorable AND RESILIENT gal! Her life came crashing down after being surrendered by her owner after having puppies (they said they gave them away 😶)—she was initially very timid and shutdown, she’s flourished with volunteers and other dogs. It’s insane she’s been here for over 100 days!

Pinky has been absolutely delightful in outings with volunteers and I’ve fallen in love with her from the times i’ve taken her out. Connected, cute, alert, and GORGEOUS! Look at those radar ears! She’s been a “rockstar” in countless dog playgroups.

Unfortunately, despite ~ 30% open kennels at the shelter she is being EUTH LISTED for reactivity in her kennel. She’s barky and jumpy- she’s stressed being stuck in a kennel! And there have been times she’s growled from inside at the team cleaning her kennel. But as I mentioned, she’s amazing outside her kennel.

She’ll do great in a home with people that can provide her time to decompress, while giving her the structure and enrichment she deserves. While she’s been great with other dogs, please understand the importance of SLOW introductions between Pinky and any dog(s) in your home. We’re talking many days/weeks of highly managed oversight.

Lets get this little moo-pup saved!!

Update - RESCUED BY @grandpawsseniorsanctuary 🎉🎉😃The shelter is no place for a senior girl who has lived the life our Ducky has! We can’t bear for her to spend another night at West LA. She has already been given the gift of kennel cough. We refuse to allow this precious, loving granny girl to languish at the shelter and develop pneumonia. Nor can we bear for the shelter to kill her because she’s contracted kennel cough there. We need your help. Our beautiful Ducky needs a foster now. We have excellent rescue interest. Please help us put a solid plan together for Ducky. She cannot die at the shelter.

Duckie is such a pleasure. All she wants is to be comfortable and to lie near you. She moves slowly, demands little. She’s friendly with other dogs. (She’s contagious now, so if you have other dogs, you’ll need to keep them separate at first.)

Fostering costs nothing. And the gift you give is priceless. ✨✨✨

She is another Former “Mama Dog” that finds herself behind the bars in a kennel after having previous litters. 😔 Natasha is timid in her kennel and hangs her head down… while looking up at you with those Beautiful Sad Eyes. According to Lisa a volunteer and big fan…She was surprised by how instantly loving she was! Pressing her body against her and looking up to give kisses. 🥰 She truly is the Sweetest Pittie and just wants kindness and reassurance. She also perked up with each dog she saw in the adjacent yards! She knows basic commands like Sit and offers both her paws to shake. She takes treats gently and walks well on leash. She refused to exit the kennel and required coaxing and gentle leash pressure to get her to walk. She kept her distance from the runner and strongly pulled on leash. When she was introduced to the dogs her body was slightly tense, her eyes were concerned, and her tail was tucked. She was nervous being collared and leashed. She entered the yard and was tolerant during the greetings. She kept to herself and explored the yard.
She roamed quietly and co-existed with the dogs but did not engage in play. Overall, she was tolerant of the dogs and would benefit best in a gentle/dainty yard.

The handler called her over, she looked at her with concerned eyes, a neutral body, a low tail, and a closed mouth. The handler knelt and began to coax her, she slowly approached her, her body relaxed, her eyes softened, her tail was still low but wagged softly. She allowed the handler to pet her everywhere. The hander stopped petting her and Daisy walked over, leaned her body against her then dropped to the ground to solicit belly rubs.
