Crawford County Youth Leadership is starting back up this week! 🎉

Youth Leadership is a six-month program conducted in all 6th grade classrooms throughout Crawford County. Through fun, hands-on activities and conversations with community volunteers, students build confidence, develop leadership skills, and learn how they can put those skills into action at school and in their communities.

A program like this takes a whole community, and we are so thankful for the schools, teachers, staff, and volunteers who open their classrooms and give their time to make this experience possible for our students.

Behind the scenes, the Chamber team has been busy getting everything ready for another year of Youth Leadership, from stuffing supply bags and training volunteers to coordinating schedules with schools and facilitators. We are so excited to see it all come together in the classrooms!

Thank you to our Youth Leadership sponsors for helping make this program possible:
Presenting Sponsors: Bicknell Legacy Foundation, Mercy , Pitsco Education
Celebration Sponsor: Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas, USD 250, Watco
Participating Sponsors: GNBank, Kannarr Eye Care, Kendall Packaging, Midwest Minerals
T-Shirt Sponsors: Compass Academy Network, Evergy, nVent Electric, Pittsburg State University

And a special thank you to Evergy for donating a portion of the supplies that went into the supply bags this year!

✨ Look at all the cute magnets we made with our 3Doodler pen! 🥹💗 Such a fun way to let my 3rd graders share a little about themselves AND add some personality to their lockers! 🥰🔬✨#teachersofinstagram #teacherlife #teachersfollowteachers #teachergram #teachersofinstagram

Playgrounds, connections, and a little bit of magic. ✨ Day 2 was packed with hands-on learning, great conversations, and ideas I can’t wait to bring back to my students. #ISTELive @isteconnects

First grade students made straw rockets and tried out our new Mini Straw Rocket Launchers from Pitsco Education. We then went outside and watched rockets fly with the stomp rockets.

Last week my 5th graders learned how to identify the components of a framed wall using the Pitsco cutter 🪚🛠️

Students learned the purpose of the:
🔨 Top plate
🔨 Bottom plate
🔨 Studs

There’s no better way to learn than by DOING. Hands-on learning helped students actually understand how things are built instead of just reading about it in a book.

Hopefully next we’ll move into adding door and window openings so students can continue building their knowledge step by step. 🔥
