PITTSBURG PRODIGIES AT PASSING THE MIC: WE LOVE YOU!! The P TURNED UP IN WISCONSIN at the 2026 @omaifirstwave Passing the Mic Festival at @uwmadison 🧀🧀🧀 and man we had a blast😭So much could be shared about our experience this weekend, but above all we came away KNOWING that this poetry shit matters now more than ever. We broke bread with youth teams from all over the country, cried, laughed, witnessed absolutely sickeningly good artistry, and left with memories we will never forget🥹🥹🥹. The POETS ARE ALRIGHT!! Art makes us free, gives us community, hope, and self-knowledge during a time when all that we feel is commodified, exploited, drowned out, or silenced. P WORLD CA, the forever underdog, the little city that everyone got 2 cents about, IS WORTH THESE STAGES!! Corazón never been more full, and we couldn’t be more proud🧡🧡🧡 Pittsburg may be sending some applications your way @uwmadison 👀👀

Shoutout to @southern_word , Philly, @meta4houston , for rocking with us heavy all weekend and to the countless other teams who shows us community and love. S/O to tía Verónica for being there for da babies!!Lastly thank you to Salima, Sofia, and Sam with OMAI First wave for curating the weekend and making a trip like this possible. Long ass flights and months of planning are worth it 10 times over. Thank you, Madison. Thank you First Wave, THANK YOU POETS!

THE PRODIGIES TRAVEL TO PASSING THE MIC 2026 at UW MADISON WISCONSIN! In My Section is proud to collaborate with OMAI First Wave @omaifirstwave at @uwmadison to send 8 youth and 2 chaperones to the Passing the Mic Poetry festival October 15-18 at UW Madison. The attitude is GRATITUDE!!

In My Section and the Prodiges were selected from a national field of teams and organizations to represent at Passing the Mic—we are honored to put on for our city and our community. In My Section and UWM is covering 100% of the costs to send our team, including flights, food, and lodging. This is our 5th national travel opportunity for our Pittsburg artists since 2023.

Passing the Mic (PtM) is a dynamic 2-day festival designed to engage, inspire, and recruit prospective scholars for the First Wave Hip Hop Scholarship Program hosted by the Office of Multicultural Arts Initiatives (OMAI). This event brings together students from local and national community organizations whose members excel in civic engagement, artistic excellence, and other qualities that align with the mission of the First Wave program. Through a series of interactive workshops, tours, presentations, and performances, the festival immerses these prospective students in the vibrant community of the University of Wisconsin (UW) and introduces them to the First Wave Hip Hop Scholarship Program’s unique offerings.

During the festival, students will tour the UW campus and the surrounding Madison area, allowing them to envision UW as their potential academic home. They will have the opportunity to connect with current First Wave scholars, engage in collaborative creative projects, and gain a deeper understanding of the program’s curriculum and values. By showcasing the talent and potential of the participants, Passing the Mic emphasizes the program’s commitment to fostering artistic and academic growth within a supportive community. The festival culminates in performances that bring together students and the broader Madison community, further celebrating the power of hip hop as a tool for education, activism, and self-expression.

🏈 It’s a big Friday night in East County!

The Pirates of Pittsburg High School are hosting Liberty High School Lions this Friday, and with two great football teams taking the field, even the Chiefs of Police are getting in on the rivalry.

So naturally, a friendly wager had to happen.

Pittsburg is home to the legendary New Mecca Café, and Brentwood… well, they’ve got some pretty good corn. 🌽

If Pittsburg wins, Brentwood owes us a case of their finest corn. If Liberty wins, we’ll make sure they get some New Mecca.

Either way, East County wins. Two great communities, two great football programs, and one fun Friday night under the lights.

🏈 Pittsburg vs. Liberty
📅 Friday night
⏰ 7:00 PM

We’ll see you at the game!

Pittsburg PAL was truly honored to be part of the opening of the Special Olympics! ❤️🏅

Thank you to Pittsburg Unified School District for putting together such an amazing event and for inviting us to be part of such a special day.

And as always, a huge thank you to our Pittsburg Police Department for continuing to support our students and always showing up for the Pittsburg community. 🧡🖤

Days like this remind us what inclusion is really about. Making sure every student feels seen, valued, celebrated, and knows they belong. Every student deserves the opportunity to participate, shine, and be cheered on.

When we choose inclusion, we build a stronger and more united community where everyone has a place and everyone belongs. ❤️
