On August 3rd, 2024, my comrades @mplsbma and I threw a bike race called Jimmy Cat, part of the 2024 Summer Series of races, and meant to celebrate all the riders out there slinging sandwiches everyday.

It was my first time planning and hosting such a big event, so needless to say I was nervous. But thanks to my friends, sponsors, and everyone who showed up to race, the event was a success.

Long Day, Long Ride: A Solstice Century.

Come celebrate the longest days of the year with a ridiculously long bicycle ride.

The route is designed to be easy, with long, flat sections of rail trail (mixture of pavement and smooth gravel). But I added some spice in the form of an unimproved section of trail that's paved only with railroad ballast. This section is easily avoided if need be.

We will depart from Behind Bars Bicycle Shop at 9 AM. Matchbox coffee is around the corner for your fueling needs.

The pace will be whatever I can manage. Feel free to ride faster or slower. This is not an official event in any way, just a casual meetup with friends.

Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/43029427

The route is untested. There may be detours. It's an adventure!

If you don't want to ride up to the shop and you’d rather meet along the way, DM me your phone number so we can keep in touch. We'll be heading west on the Luce Line Trail to start.

2023 Messlife Campout Part 3.

This isn’t just a moment in time. This is a place that we created. A place free of want and worry. A place where one takes care of another. A place where you can be yourself.

We are adults now. We keep a clean camp. We bring first aid supplies. We have fun, responsibly. We no longer care to thrash our bodies. The first year we did this trip, we cycled 110 miles in a day and camped in a bush. Now in the 5th year, we are riding shorter distances, staying in plush campgrounds, and taking plenty of breaks to eat, drink, and be merry.

I know not everyone has friends like this. I’m so thankful for my friends. Until next year, Never Forget.
