Capturing the Autumn light at Bolam Lake 🍁🍂 ~ an afternoon wander around Bolam Country Park and Lake at the weekend gave for some gorgeous opportunities to admire the Autumn tones of the season

I’m always fascinated with light and shadow and how it brings a scene to life and those rich oranges, reds and yellows of Autumn really emphasise the glows of late afternoon sunshine

The lakeside path here at Bolam that loops the lake is approx. 1 mile long and fully accessible for wheelchairs & pushchairs. There’s a cafe here too for the all important coffee and cake stop after your walk!

First attempt at Deep Space: Andromeda.

Just like with Milky Way photography, I’ve always seen these deep space objects posted online and wondered if it was something I could actually achieve myself.

I’d occasionally spot a tiny glimpse of Andromeda in my wide angle Milky Way shots and kept telling myself I’d attempt it properly with a longer lens one day. Well, last night was the night!

I originally headed out to practice Milky Way panoramas at longer focal lengths, but the clouds had other plans [shakes fist at sky]. Luckily, I had my trusty Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 in the bag, a lens that’s over 10 years old now and still going strong. Having seen great results from @pixpetephoto using the Move Shoot Move Nomad tracker at 200mm, I decided to give Andromeda a go.

The clouds eventually rolled in and ruined most of the run, leaving me with just 10 usable 60-second exposures out of 30.

This is by no means a perfect image, it’s missing detail and definitely needs more images to stack, and maybe even darks, flats, and bias frames to clean up the noise. But finding it in the night sky was a challenge in itself, and I learned a huge amount. I’ll definitely be back out with more time, more frames, and better technique next time!

Food and drinks 🍹tunes from 80s/90s/00s blasting from the speakers 🎶 , sunset views 🌅 and the whole place to act like a huge kid for their over 18s evenings we had an absolute blast 🙌🏻

When me and @pixpetephoto came here for the Christmas light trail we made a pact to come back for this so we could try it out and it didn’t disappoint! Please @lilidoreialnwick make this a regular occurrence such a fun evening ✨everyone was in great spirits and giggling away a proper fab night

A day of snowdrop trail exploring at the stunning @howickhallgardens 🌿 somewhere I visit every year to catch the display and have a wander around the stunning gardens and buildings.

The snowdrops are right at their prime so now is the time if you’re thinking of seeing them for yourself! With several walking trails here and breathtaking scenery it’s a gorgeous day out, loved exploring the hall itself and the church too everything is just so photogenic!

A lovely day with @pixpetephoto on a very rare sunny day! We definitely hit lucky with the weather and the afternoon golden light was just 👌🏻

January took me to Bamburgh - many times I have drove past it but never stopped. February brought me to Hury Reservoir, a place I didn’t even know existed but an absolute stunning morning was spent here walking around the whole of it! March took me to Hadrians Wall where emotions ran high seeing the felled Sycamore Tree, but left on a high after bagging my first ever trig. Look forward to the next quarter where the daylight gets longer and the temperatures get warmer and to see what it brings!

FLAMBOROUGH HEAD LIGHTHOUSE

Pete says: "I like the location. It's stunningly beautiful and especially peaceful during the night. The clarity of the sky that night was also one of the best I've seen in a long time, making the process of capturing this image very satisfying.

With all my nightscape images, I like to present the Milky Way in a larger overall scene by incorporating a strong subject and a leading foreground to add some depth. I want the viewer to imagine themselves being there, on a journey, discovering it.

The lighthouse itself presented an enormous challenge, as normally when shooting dark skies using long exposures with high ISO's you do not want any sources of light in the shot. The only way to retain the highlights was to shoot at lower ISO's and then raise the exposure of the sky area in post, while simultaneously lowering exposure around the lighthouse."

Camera: Fujifilm X-M5 body with the Samyang 12mm F/2 NCS CS lens.

Settings: ISO 800, f2, 25 seconds. 16 frames stacked to reduce noise.

Digital Camera says: What a fabulous capture of this lighthouse on the wonderful Yorkshire Coastline. The use of the fence in the foreground cleverly draws the viewers eye to the lighthouse with the wonderful Milky Way in the background. A truly stunning astro landscape capture from the UK
