What it means to her to be a Filipina American:

A Filipina-American means that I am strong enough to be independent and resilient- and being even stronger to be able to ask for support with my community.
Within @gawadkalinga_usa , I believe that the Kusina ng Kalinga most resonates with me. Food is more than just basic survival, it’s the fuel for movement and thought and the lack of nutrition in the Filipino youth is part of the stagnation that keeps the poor where they are. Being fed alleviates worry for food insecurity and provides the power to hopefully push the Filipinos out of poverty.

What it means to her to be a Filipina:

To me, being a Filipina-American means carrying the legacy of my parents’ resilience, especially their willingness to navigate uncertainty, overcome adversity, and build a life from the ground up in the US, and using that foundation to uplift those around me. I connect deeply with the Child and Youth Development programs of @gawadkalinga_usa with my experience in service to pediatric populations and families in Florida throughout my undergraduate career. I aim to transform my impact to the Philippines by empowering Filipino children, cultivating the same hope and sense of possibility that my parents sought when they first immigrated.
