🪄The Wand in Hand | Artist introduction - PJ Riley

PJ Riley ( RCA master of design 1989) paints contemporary symbolic paintings exploring duality, collective humanity, and the tension between opposing forces through stark, minimal forms and high-contrast composition.

Through simplified figures, raised hands, shadowed forms, and sophisticated compositions, he explores the tension between unity and division, silence and voice, light and shadow.

An artist whose work explains something important about modern humanity; the world, the future, humbled in the context of what it means to be a father, son, partner and brother.

Introducing PJ Riley a contemporary artist who has recently joined Avant Registry.

Drawing inspiration from both the UK and the vibrant atmosphere of Grenada, PJ Riley creates emotionally charged works using unconventional materials such as car paint and oil sticks. His artistic process embraces contrast and unpredictability, layering incompatible paints to produce dynamic textures, reactions, and visual tension.

Through bold abstraction and experimental mark-making, his work explores themes of environmental anxiety, human emotion, transformation, and hope for the future. Each composition carries an intense physical energy while maintaining a deeply personal and expressive visual language.

Balancing raw instinct with layered complexity, PJ Riley’s practice challenges traditional painting methods and invites viewers into immersive emotional landscapes shaped by movement, material, and imagination.

Do you love fluorescents? As a Fauvist artist I’m all about the colour in my unconventional artwork. Give it to me bright and bold baby! I discovered the Holbein line from an artist I met on IG. Thanks @pjrileyart
Here I’m mixing Luminous Opera with acrylic medium to add a glaze to my Birds.
What are your favourites? I’m always looking for new and delicious ways to up the power of colour.
