I made it at home for $7.13 total ($1.78 per toast) and it tastes identical bc I finally cracked their recipe for boquerones bruschetta, which I’ve been thinking about ever since they trialed the flavor 2 summers ago! The key ingredient is adding lemon juice + zest, which cuts the acidity of the boquerones vinegar and adds an addicting brightness. This is perfect for a summer girl dinner, lunch, snack, appetizer! CURRENT TOAST OBSESSION: NECTARINE GREEK YOGURT TOAST for the past few months, I’ve been eating either greek yogurt + fruit or sourdough toast + EVOO for breakfast. yesterday I wanted both, so this was born! the delicious flavor of nectarine with the creaminess of yogurt is enhanced by a lil salt & olive oil ~> the perfect summer combo if you haven’t tried plain greek yogurt on toast yet, it’s similar to a tangy ricotta or cream cheese or whipped cottage cheese but with the benefit of probiotics with high protein! I prefer whole fat plain greek yogurt bc sometimes “low-fat” requires additional ingredients for the same mouth feel. 2 tbs of @fage = ~3 g protein 2 tbs of @traderjoes high protein 20g greek yogurt = ~4.5 g protein I like my breakfasts to include probiotics and more easily digestible ingredients like sourdough to wake up my metabolism for the day. keeps ya regular too! RECIPE: • 1-2 slices bread (using homemade sourdough) • high quality extra virgin olive oil (strong anti-inflammatory & source of plant-derived omega-3) • ripe nectarine or peach • flakey salt & black pepper • optional: fresh basil 1. drizzle small amount of EVOO on toast and bake until toasted to desired level. I don’t have a toaster so I use my airfryer 2. spread some greek yogurt, then top with nectarines slices 3. season with s&p and more EVOO if desired 4. top with basil ENJOY! would you try this? RECIPE AND TIPS on how to use allll of your lemons as we enter the best season (lemon-y summery desserts): 🍋 zest your lemons first! • use a small hole grater for zest you would use in baked goods, garnishes • freeze zest to last long and use as needed • use a vegetable peeler for larger swirls of zest to use in oleo saccharum 🍋 after zesting, squeeze lemons for their juice • you can store in a glass jar in the fridge for immediate use up to 7 days • or store in ice cube trays in the freezer for infused water, cooking, smoothies, granita 🍋 oleo saccharum = lemon oil syrup recipe from @food52 • in a jar: add 1 c lemon zest strips & 3/4 c granulated cane sugar • muddle together to release oils • let sit covered at room temp for 5-24 hrs • strain syrup & store in fridge up to a couple weeks use in: drinks, baked goods 🍋 I forgot to show, but I then coated the syrupy zest left behind in more sugar, spread out and let dry to make candied peels! 🍋 fermented lemonade = letting natural yeast from lemon rinds create a probiotic drink recipe: @thehappypear • wash 6-8 organic lemons • in a jar, juice the lemons then add 60-120 g sugar and 1L water. stir until sugar dissolves • add lemon peels —needed to start fermentation • close the lid of jar and let sit room temp for 3 days, stirring occasionally • when you see lil bubbles day 3, sieve to remove peels & pith. transfer to either 2 small bottles with lids, or I reused a TJ’s triple ginger bottle • ferment for 3 days at room temp, burping the bottle (open lid carefully and let out gas) each day • once lemonade is fizzy and your desired sourness, transfer to fridge to stop fermentation good in fridge for up to 2 weeks!! this tasted like a delicious fizzy lemonade with gut health and all my friends loved trying it! Doctors cannot become licensed to practice until they finish at least one year of residency and pass the last board exam. Then, they become board certified in their specialty after graduating residency. tonight’s menu: high-fiber shrimp burrito bowls! for anyone craving chipotle at home, but better bc it’s nutrient dense packed with fiber (lowers cholesterol, heart healthy, prevents constipation) & protein without skimping on flavor! it’s also easy to make under 1 hr (using different appliances helps) and can be meal prepped, so perf for busy friends and families PREP CILANTRO GREEK YOGURT SAUCE: blend with immersion blender: • 1 c plain greek yogurt • 1 handful fresh cilantro, washed • 2 tbs hatch chiles or 1 fresh jalapeño • juice 1/2 lemon or lime • 1/4 tsp salt save extra in fridge x7 days QUICK PICKLED RADISHES simmer in saucepan & stir to combine: • 1/2 c water • 1/2 c vinegar (used red wine and rice vinegar, could use apple cider) • 2 tsp honey • 1 tsp salt place in jar: • thinly sliced radishes & 2 garlic cloves (could do onion instead) • peppercorns optional • pour over liquid, when cooled add lid to store in fridge x2-3 wks RICE: for 2 people: 1/2 c rice washed + 1/2 c water + frozen sweet corn in rice cooker on plain rice setting CANNED BLACK BEANS: rinse and heat in rice cooker with rice for last 4 min or microwave 1 min CHILE LIME SHRIMP: • frozen shrimp • chile lime seasoning + garlic powder + paprika 1. thaw shrimp, then pat dry 2. coat with 1-2 tsp @traderjoes chile lime seasoning, 1/2 tsp garlic powder, 1/2 tsp paprika 3. in a pan heat oil then saute shrimp ~1-2 min each side (I eyeballed measurements) ROASTED SWEET POTATO: 1. dice 2 medium sweet potato and coat w avocado oil 2. airfry 375F for 10-15 min ASSEMBLE: add to bowls: • rice mixed with corn and black beans • roasted potatoes • shrimp • pickled radishes • drizzle sauce on top ENJOY! hi I’m Annie, and I’m in my last year of FM residency. if you want unfiltered advice, genuine portrayals of med life and tidbits of recipes, travel & outdoor adventures along the way then follow @sliceofannie 🫶🏼 #plantbasedrecipe #burritobowl #nutrientdense #med

you = everyone who submitted their rank list for MATCH 2026!!! SHARE to those in the same boat and your loved ones who don’t understand yet how important MATCH day is it’s been 3 years since I experienced that, but how do you forget such a highly stressful time? what do you mean you spent 4 yrs of undergrad, additional gap years possibly, and 4 intense yrs of med school obtaining your medical degree…then can’t get your physician license unless you match into a residency? what do you mean you worked your butt off and might not match into the specialty you wanted? what do you mean you have no idea where you’re moving for the next 3+ years until March 20 after a computer matches you to a residency? sounds crazy, but this is the reality of every physician in the U.S. to all 2026 residency applicants: first take a deep breath in and out. your list is certified, submitted, and one of the last steps is done! hopefully you feel a small weight off your shoulders second, try to focus on yourself, hobbies, anything aside from match bc that is now out of your control. being anxious and worried won’t change the results, so use that energy for good good luck, all of us residents and attendings are rooting for you!!! hi I’m Annie, and I’m in my last year of FM residency. if you want unfiltered advice, genuine portrayals of med life and tidbits of recipes, travel & outdoor adventures along the way then follow @sliceofannie 🫶🏼 #medhumor #match2026 #medstudent #residency

part 6 | this advice is updated as a now PGY3 involved from the residency side, and from personal experience of what I did as a 2023 applicant from other residents’ & faculty’s advice. SHOULD I STILL SEND A LETTER OF INTENT IN JAN/FEB? yes, considering: • only send one saying you will rank that program #1 . if you tell more than one that, I promise you PDs will find out & won’t trust you • you are 100% sure you will put that program first. if you change your mind, rank another program #1 and match there, they will know. programs get notified of where each applicant matched, try not to burn bridges • send by mid-feb, considering most programs finalize their list after that • note: LOI are nice but not weighed heavily • I didn’t send letters to other programs in my top 3 saying I’ll “rank them highly” bc didn’t want any chance for neg interpretation. you do you. SHOULD I REACH OUT TO RESIDENTS OF THE PROGRAMS I’M RANKING HIGHLY? yes! • we note if applicants continue to communicate to residents after their interview as a gauge of interest • choose the residents you connected with, esp if they said “reach out for any questions” they meant it • text > email if you can, bc residents get too many emails. if they haven’t responded in a couple days, they were probs busy/forgot. send a polite follow up! imo following up after 1-3 days is reasonable, within 12 hrs is impatient • you are not bothering us as long as you are polite/professional. if we connected with you, we love hearing from you! this time is highly anxiety-inducing bc this determines your specialty, future career, license (although it’s not the end of the world to SOAP, reapply, change your mind). while many factors of match are outside your control, you can control doing everything YOU could to do your best. the continued communication with programs is part of that. ranking based on what’s best for your development, not based on your assumed chances, is part of that. end this cycle with no regrets. RECIPE for my current meal hyperfixation: save & share to who you’d eat this with 🫶🏼 TAHINI CAESAR DRESSING: (not fully traditional, tweaked from @justine_snacks ‘s recipe) 1. mix in a bowl w/ wooden spoon: • 2 garlic cloves, grated • 2 tbs anchovy paste [got mine from an Italian grocery store, or use 4 tinned anchovies] • zest & juice of 1/2 lemon • 2 tbs tahini • 1 tbs white miso 2. change to a whisk & whisk while drizzling 1/4 c quality extra virgin olive oil. whisk in 1 tsp water at a time until desired creamy thickness. ***makes enough for 4 salad entrees HERB BREAD CRUMBS 1 slice stale bread (I use sourdough) 1 pat butter italian seasoning, salt, pepper, garlic powder 1. heat stainless steel pan then set on low heat 2. blend bread on low to form bread crumbs 3. melt butter on pan then add bread crumbs + seasonings. toast & stir occasionally for ~7 min until crumbs are golden & toasted. let cool in pan to keep crisping ASSEMBLE SALAD for 2: homemade dressing romaine lettuce 1/2 english cucumber homemade bread crumbs fresh grated parmesan grana panado 1. wash, dry and rough chop romaine lettuce & thinly slice cucumbers 2. toss w/ dressing, place in serving bowls 3. grate a generous amount of cheese over & top w/ breadcrumbs ENJOY!!! we loved ours paired with wild salmon & roasted japanese sweet potatoes! a meal packed with/ omega-3, fiber, good protein, and crunchy savory goodness #caesarsalad #girldinner #recipeideas #mediterraneandiet #sliceofannie

I may be a physician, but sometimes mothers and cultural foods really know best… idk about you, but lately it feels like people left and right are catching viral illnesses. but we shouldn’t isolate while healthy out of fear of getting sick (unless you’re immunocompromised) bc we need to live our lives, so here’s what I’ve been doing for prevention to boost my immune system: 1. make tea with sliced fresh ginger, local honey, & lemon juice. honey has evidence it’s as effective as OTC sore throat medicine. ginger has anti-inflammatory and anti-nausea properties. lemon juice gives a vitamin C boost for antioxidants 2. wash my hands thoroughly frequently, especially before eating or cooking 3. wear a mask around people/patients complaining of cough, congestion, new headache 4. make and eat this cháo (Vietnamese congee)! my mom used to make this plain for me growing up anytime I was sick. this works esp well with diarrhea due to its simple base of water and rice. Viet people also make this when hungover or simply wanting a comforting soup to warm themselves. SAVE & SHARE this recipe combining my mom’s instructions and @alissanguyen_ : used: • 1 c white rice (want low fiber if diarrhea present) • 6+ cups of water to desired consistency • salt optional: • 1/3 onion diced, garlic, fresh ginger, fish sauce, soy sauce, mushroom bouillon, crushed black pepper, protein [I used shredded rotisserie chicken for my husband and firm plain tofu for me], green onion, fried scallions make [4 bowls] 1. wash your rice 2. if using aromatics, in a large pot heat ~2 tbs oil and saute diced onion & sliced ginger until fragrant ~6 min. add garlic and once golden add rice + 6 cups water 3. bring to a boil, then let simmer for ~30-40 min until the rice starts breaking apart & water has thickened. stir occasionally & add water if too thick 4. add salt to taste. optional: add seasonings. stir to combine 5. serve into bowl and top with protein + toppings ENJOY! my man was sick 2 days ago. the day after eating this + sleep, he felt much better. food is medicine too! #healthyrecipe #antiinflammatorydiet #medicine #nutrition

APPLE FRITTER FOCACCIA w/ HOJICHA MAPLE BROWN BUTTER GLAZE recipe by @okonomikitchen on her blog—Lisa, I think this is the best thing I’ve tried baking yet, thanks to you!!! I’ve been thinking about this recipe for the past month & finally had a chill weekend off before my next rotation (golden, if you will) to make this focaccia. 10/10 from my husband and friends I shared this with SAVE for inspo notes: • my pan was 9x11” so based off of Lisa’s percentages & 24 hr proofing, I used: 693 g flour (AP had enough protein content) 602 g water 20 g salt 3.5-4 g instant yeast • I did cold fermentation for ~20 hrs • tweaked the glaze recipe: 1/2 stick TJ’s maple brown sugar butter log (2 oz) + 3/4 c powdered sugar + 1 tsp vanilla + 1 tsp hojicha powder + ~3 tsp milk + 1 tsp maple syrup.
