SALT SUMMER SERIES | @teresaa.mc x @playground_danceproject ▶️

PlayGround Dance Project is designed to support artistic exploration for local choreographers and dancers in the Salt Lake City/Utah community. Five choreographers are given time, space, collaborative performers, and a platform to create a new piece of work within a one-week flash incubator experience. Tonight we celebrate Company Artist Teresa as she premiered a new work by incoming SALT2 dancer Dominic Favela @dominic.fav entitled Ponte Las Pilas! 🙌🏼

PlayGroud has been an incredible resource for ethical and sustainable freelance practices and we have LOVED seeing both SALT & SALT2 company members/alumni take part in it every summer. Thank you PlayGround for the beautiful work you are doing! 👏🏼🧂

I made a dance with beautiful people last month for @playground_danceproject 🌀 Still I feel so proud and excited about what we accomplished in one week together. It’s beautiful what can happen when a group of people all believe in something and collectively trust their instincts.

A huge inspiration behind this work was a @rachelyoun sculpture “No Pain No Gain” which I saw at Night Gallery in LA earlier this spring. This sculpture includes 3 small ducks attached by a string, running on a miniature walking pad.

This work inspired me deeply because these ducks are constantly running yet going nowhere. The ducks seem to me like they are dreaming and possibly dreaming of something that might not be real. This work had me reflecting on what my dreams are and whether my dreams would be possible if it weren’t for my parents or immigrant grandparents.

PlayGround Dance Project is a choreographic flash incubator that provides 5 choreographers and 25 dancers the opportunity to create new works in under a week. PlayGround supports artistic exploration and promotes risk-taking, collaborative processes, and experimental dancemaking.

PlayGround is designed to support dance artists local to Salt Lake City and surrounding areas, providing them with time, space, and a platform to create and explore. The dancers and choreographers are given only one week, or eight hours, to create five new pieces of work. Join us for a performance of unique works that showcase our dance community’s innovative talent. Let’s play, SLC!

PlayGround was launched in Summer 2023 by Founder and Director, Roxanne Gray, and has become an integral part of our local Salt Lake City community. This year’s show is produced by 801 Salon, and funded by the Salt Lake City Arts Council, Alpha Wealth Foundation, Utah Division of Arts & Museums, The Blocks Arts District, the Salt Lake City Arts, Culture, and Entertainment (ACE) Fund, and and community members like you.
