PUBLICATION DAY! We are so very proud to announce that our first release, Richard B. Simon’s THE DOLPHIN AMBASSADOR’S DAUGHTER, illustrated by legendary rock poster artist Alan Forbes, is out in gorgeous, limited first edition, cloth-bound hardback, numbered and signed by the author – and available direct from BRIGHT SPIDER PRESS (and at the merch table on our West Coast tour 9/11-18).

What if the whales responded to environmental catastrophe the way Americans responded to the 9/11 attacks? In Simon’s epic ecological fantasy novel, K’Tangu, an Orca from icy Shkukut whose family has been devastated by an oil spill, demands that the marine mammals wage war to drive the Humans from the ocean. The Dolphin Ambassador, certain that such a war would be disastrous, sends his granddaughter Zzzwooieee on a secret mission to stop the war.

THE DOLPHIN AMBASSADOR’S DAUGHTER is inspired by Tolkien, Orwell, Watership Down, the Odyssey, and the language-rich fiction of Chinua Achebe, Toni Morrison, and Louise Erdrich. It unfolds alternatingly in prose and epic verse.

ORDER THE DOLPHIN AMBASSADOR’S DAUGHTER TODAY!

Uncertain Girls in Uncertain Times is a labor of love, built by community, and the result of many, many conversations. 🤗🫶🏾✨
.
Uncertain Girls has been a project in the making since 2019. 😳 It began with a request from Evie, Donna’s daughter, for a collection of poems to help guide her through the next stage of her life: college graduation. Since then, it’s expanded to include the wisdom of women all across the country — mothers, artists, scientists, spiritual practitioners, activists, and yes of course, poets — bringing together voices across generations, geography, profession, and life experience. 🙌🏿🙌🏾🙌🏽🙌🏼
.
In 2022, we self-published a limited-run first iteration of the book, and celebrated with a launch at Katherine Anderson’s beloved restaurant and event space, The London Plane (@londonplaneseattle), gathering local contributors, their families, friends, and mentees, around readings, shares, and platters of delicious food. 💐🥹🫂
.
We can’t wait to celebrate this second, expanded iteration of the book with you all in just a few months’ time. Stay tuned for more information about events this fall (and next spring, just in time for graduation!). 🤗💫

On Saturday Nov 16, at the fabulous @village_books a dramatic #reading of the #TheEtruscan. "Gorgeously detailed -- Wickedly fun" --Prairie Schooner. "Haunting...vivid...entrancing" #Kirkusreview at 5 pm. "The road to the tombs skirted a field of shriveled sunflowers, an army of nodding heads on stalks, bowed and blackened, awaiting harvest. There were no houses out this way, only wide expanses of tawny stubble, alternating with strips of freshly ploughed clay. Here and there on a hilltop, a dead oak or cypress punctuated the empty sky where hungry crows swooped low...

Have you ever lived in a House Where Time is Not? Or are you a Dreamer of Houses, like Harriet in The Etruscan? ... On my substack this week...https://lindalappin.substack.com/p/a-house-where-time-is-not #oldhouse #myoldhouse #dreamersofhouses #TheEtruscan #Bachelard #Bookstagram #gothic #newfictionbooks ...I examined the house in the fading light. It looked uninhabited, if not abandoned. It was exactly the sort of place I had been looking for: an entity not a mere soulless habitation. It had an energy that attracted me strongly. I surveyed the surrounding countryside: low lying fields, a row of oaks dotted on a distant ridge, a tower beyond the bare hills…

Later, Harriet, discovering the magical effects of the mirrors reflecting the view from the windows throughout the house – exclaims “This was a house where time is not – and I knew I must have it at all costs!”
