Sweetbird North | Snøhetta @snohetta Snøhetta has unveiled Sweetbird North, an eight-story mixed-use office and retail building for Raycliff Capital in Miami’s Design District. The project is defined by a sculptural stainless-steel “veil” that wraps the building’s exposed concrete structure and scalloped terraces. Developed in response to Miami’s stringent hurricane requirements, the custom-engineered mesh integrates sun shading, guardrails and hurricane protection into a single architectural system. Its appearance shifts with light and viewing angle, balancing environmental performance with a distinctive visual identity. At street level, retail spaces, generous glazing and extended canopies create a more intimate pedestrian edge. Above, planted terraces form a continuous vertical landscape, transitioning from dense tropical planting to lighter flowering species as the building rises. By turning structural and environmental requirements into architectural expression, Sweetbird North proposes a layered workplace that connects office life, landscape and the public realm. The National Juneteenth Museum nears construction with the demolition of the Historic Southside Community Center. The 72,000-sqft new structure features an innovative mass timber folded plate, with glulam top and bottom chords creating an extremely slim roof spanning up to 90ft. This signature roof produces a series of ridges, peaks, and valleys of varying heights that combine to create a courtyard shaped as a 'nova star', inspired by the Juneteenth flag. We're honoured to be the structural engineers for this epicenter of African American education, featuring a black box theater, a food hall, immersive galleries, and a business incubator. 📸 by BIG / Image 1 by BIG & @plo.mp @juneteenthmsm @big_builds @kaienterprises Alligood Song Architects #juneteenth #masstimber #StructureCraft

Members of the design team traveled to Tennessee yesterday to review progress on the fabrication of the monumental spiral stair for the Henrietta Lacks Building ahead of its installation on site. As the vertical anchor of the building’s collaborative spaces, the stair is both a central organizing element and a symbolic expression of ascent, uplift, and unification.

The East Baltimore streetscape is marked by the quintessential marble stoop, an everyday architectural element that has shaped the diverse neighborhood’s culture of connection. At the Henrietta Lacks Building, the element is reinterpreted as a contemporary plinth that offers a familiar, welcoming face to the community. More than a reference, the stoop will be constructed from reclaimed Baltimore marble salvaged from a building renovation on the Johns Hopkins University campus, giving new life to a material that is no longer quarried, and embedding continuity, memory, and reuse into the building’s threshold.

qondesa tower in quito reimagines high-rise living with a twisting, vine-inspired facade that wraps around the building. instead of flat floors, each level becomes a planted terrace—bringing greenery into the vertical city. inspired by the surrounding mountains, the design connects urban life with nature while maximizing light and views. more than a tower, it’s a vertical ecosystem. designed by @madarchitects visuals © @mir.no @plo.mp #architecture #greenarchitecture #skyscraper #futurecities #design
